Sorry Stinker,

Man you scared the hell out of me!

Feb 13, 2008

A piece of ice flew off a truck and into the windshield of another truck coming from the other direction, killing the driver.

At 11:20 a.m. near Naples Utah, Colin Harmston was driving a water truck traveling Northbound on SR 45 passed a water tanker going Southbound.

A sheet of ice flew off the tuck traveling Southbound and broke through the windshield of Harmston’s truck. The ice hit Harmston and killed him.

The driver of the Southbound truck didn’t know what happened but called police after hearing the news from fellow drivers.

Utah Highway Patrol says that it was a freak accident and they are not planning on giving citations.

Colin Harmston was 51 years old

I feel you Stinker , I posted this on my Land Rover forum 12 dead the day of my trip on the 80 west and over a 150 crashes.

OK I picked up the Wintrack4Xtreme tires in Chicago and went through some the worst winter driving experiences in my life with absolutely no sliding. At first though, I headed out on the I80 West with the Conti tires which came with the car. Before I knew it, I was in a white out! White knuckling it past at least a hundred cars and tractor trailers wrecked on the side of the road and center medium, I held on tight as the wind threw me from the fast lane to the slow lane. I had no traction to speak of. Was not sure I was going to make it alive. Could not even see the exits available, the snow was coming down so thick.I finally pulled over for the night . Woke up to my LR3 with a good 8 inches of snow on it and -11* out ... So cold .... After warming up the ride for 20 min I jumped onto the 80 West to give it another try. As I was driving I was thinking how bad the roads are in this part of the country with all these huge holes in the ground , only realize later that the ground was frozen and what I had thought to be holes were breaks in the ice. Going less than 5 miles per hour, I barely missed a gas pump trying to pull in to fill up. On my way out of the station, I nearly hit the car in front of me at the light. I tried to stop giving my self over 20 feet to do so and the car just kept on moving. ....Finally found a place to switch the tires. On my way back home the Wintrac4Xetreme tires were flawless. I was doing the speed limit feeling very sure footed and in total control through the same scary stuff I had driven through a day earlier. Now, I was passing everything on the road from State Police to BMW X5's the tires held like velcro!..... I am very happy to know my family is safe and that we won't be having anymore near misses.

Thanks guys, head toward Tampa now:rock:

It was pretty hairy for a moment, If ya go north out of louisville Ky you will find a tractor sideways against a bridge on I-65 , T-boned it right in the middle,

Usually I am very very careful, but sometimes things still catch ya off guard;)

Thanks Jeff,

I am still pickin things outta my tail:D I've heard many many bad stories of ice and windshields

Cold in Chicago? Could of been worse! you could have gone 5-7hrs. N. towards MN and it would have been 20+degrees colder that's if you coulda gotten thru the most recent foot of snow in So. WI!

Heck it's summer in Chicago, got above 32 today.:D

The sun was out and I got to start my truck!:elefant:

Winter's not over yet, be safe out there u'all!:D

Got in the 30's here today too. Too early and too much snow here yet to think about starting/getting out truck, want to so bad though.

The last 2 months or so it's been 1-3 days in 20's, maybe 1 30ish amongst those and then 3-10 in the single digits to well below 0. back and forth like that.

Winter's not over yet, but it's getting there. Looks like we're going to have 3 -30's in a row and then 3-4 20's and then maybe 30+ again. Woo Hoo!! It's practically summer compared to last couple months!!
