I am changing my shifter the genx. With the shifter totally removed can I put the new tranny fluid in the hole where the shifter goes?

Yes!

Go ahead and drain as usual...then fill from the top...easiest way to do it...fill until it drips from the fill port.

Recommend everyone consider doing it this way if they are changing shifters!

Saves lots of mess.

ya might want to give a tad more detail there Roy:D like which plug to remove to fill until it runs out;)

Remove the drain plug (lowest on the rear of the transmission) drain and ...replace it.

Remove fill port half way up the transmission drivers side...fill from the top after removing old shifter until it starts to drip from the fill port. Replace fill port plug. Install new shifter...

What have I forgotten?

Drive it around a bit so that the old fluid is warmer and thinner so that it is easier to drain. Also any muck in there will be suspended in the fluid instead of settling.:)
