As you can guess by the title, I'm looking to either JetHot coat some Bassani shorties or go with the exhaust wrap on them. I had a set of Dynatech LT on my Magnum and found the under hood temps were getting quite rediculous, fortunatly I had the stock airbox!! This time around I want to do it right, plus I have a K&N CAI so keeping under hood temps in check are an issue!! I could care less about the "bling" factor, I just want the extra power from the headers (I know its not much) with that great header sound. I dont want to be sacrificing increased under hood temps that make the CAI lose power from all the heat along with things like plug wires and other electrical equipment wires that's can get damages from the increased heat caused by headers (mainly LT's). So my question is; For those that have JetHot coated their headers or manifolds, whats your opinions? Do you notice a cooler engine bay (they say the coating reduces heat transfer up to 50%) and do you notice anything else, like a change in sounds? Same Question goes for anyone that has simply wrapped their headers. There might be very few in this catagory but the whole idea interests me. As of now, I'm leaning toward the wrap. I love the way it looks (kinda has that olf time racer look). But I have a sneaking suspision that the coating is more efficient (along with more $$).

JetHot: Insulates metal inside and out. This way it keeps the gasses hotter while keeping both the metal and the exterior surface cooler.

Wrap: Insulates only the outside surface. The gasses do stay hotter, but only because the metal retains more heat. The hotter metal breaks down and oxidizes faster. Gaskets can overheat. The chance for failure is accelerated.

JetHot: Pay now.

Wrap: Pay later.

I'd go with JetHot.

JetHot, I simply detest the look of header wrap. Hey, if you wanted to go all out you could have them coated and then wrap them....

Mine are wrapped...the next time they come off, they will be coated. Just didn't think of it when I had them installed initially. Poor planning on my part.

I guess JetHot is the way to go! It's some expensive stuff though and adding that to the price of the headers hardly makes the hp worth the $!!! :dontknow:

HP is short-term gain.
The real value/investment will show up over time:
- Better overall engine performance
- Less "heat wear" on engine and other components
- Improved MPG
....all because of a cooler engine bay.

How long will it take you to make back the $400 you invested in the coating? Well, considering how f-ing hot these trucks run, I'd say.....about a week. :)

If you don't want the 'bling factor', they offer a flat black color coating.

For maximum insulation you'd want to go with as glossy a surface as possible. Flat, matte, wrinkle finishes have rough surfaces that act like heatsink fins that absorb and transfer heat faster. While desirable in an aircooled part (think Harley cylinders) it would not result in peak performance on exhaust parts.

Then again; maybe JetHot has that worked out. Black headers would look badass.:dontknow:

Yeah. It's a little different than your average powdercoating/paint/anodizing.
When I say "different", I mean "runs much cooler than any of those".
:D

I know you just coated your stock Manifold/shorty header (what ever you want to call the stock setup). Do you have any thoughts on it as of yet? Were you able to notice any difference in heat generated, sound emmited etc....?

Ceramic is definitely the way to go. Leave the header wrap to the trailered drag cars. As someone mentioned earlier, don't get the header wrap wet. It retains moisture and REALLY accelerates the rusting process.

I learned the hard way by putting it on my old GMC about 12 years ago.
I itched for three days (it's fiberglass you know). :(
Then, I started it up and filled my garage with smoke because it's coated with some kind of finsh oil.
Then, after about a year, it was looking ratty so I removed it to discover the rust. :argh:

don't waste you're money on either one
neither one will give you any hp gain
and the coating eventually wears off
save you're money

Stay away from header wraps....its voids the warrenty on most headers. http://www.centuryperformance.com/heatwraps.asp

Mopar long tube headers come with the wrap. While I hate the wrap, it is more to protect things around the headers than to get the headers to scavenge. Lots of things will melt if you don't do what you can to protect them. And as we know, heat is what kills the power in this engine. The lower the temp of the air in the engine compartment the better for my engine...

I posted some initial results in my original thread.
Engine bay temp has dropped SIGNIFICANTLY. My exhaust manifold temps went from 600F down to 322F.
Sound is the same. No changes.
I'm still working on the same tank of gas, but I expect a little MPG gain as well. I'll post some results when I get all the data in.

JetHot is twice as effective as ceramic coating.

The coating prevents horsepower LOSS due to excessive heat.
What's the forumla? (1) HP for every (10) degrees cooler in the engine bay/intake area? Something like that.

Great warranty with JetHot, and a lifetime rust-through guarantee.

For a 14 sec. twin hairdryer setup? :)
