Grill Craft inserts

My buddy is putting the truck back together and is about to put the inserts in the grill shell. He is telling me that if he puts them in, they are going to scratch the new paint before they fit completely in the shell. For the guys that have them, did they fit ok, or did you have to modify them to prevent any scratching?

Mine fit fine. No scratches, but had to drill 4 holes (2 each) to secure them.
I have a small gap between the shell and the grill.

Is this for the main grill . Because i just ordered the same one . Or is this the lower part of the grill ?

would have had the same issue, sent mine back & put in the oem honeycombs instead.

don't use the clips that come with it, they dig into the plastic. the screen can be massaged to fit properly (its pretty soft) and i cut the edges, made some "tabs" and bent them back to secure them to the oem anchor points with some small self tapping screws.

Lay down some tape where it would scrape the paint to protect it then peel the tape off when you got em in place

I had to drill I believe 4 holes per grill insert, but mine is a 04 I think 06 is different.

I never scratched the paint. did it all by myself, pretty easy install.
