We are trying to put an 06 auto matic in an 04 RC. The 06 flex plate holes do not line up with the 04 V10 crank holes and dowel. Anybody have any experience with this, or knowledge of an available aftermarket flex plate to make this work?
Any help or knowledge will be appreciated. Thinking about redrilling the original flex plate, but a small error could throw the alignment of critical pieces out of whack and create a catastrophe[read EXPENSIVE]. Thanks Dan

there are a few guys on here that have done an auto swap...but i think they did a TH350 though.... im sure they will chime in shorty

don't the '04's use the flywheel for one of the sensors???

like rpm or position of #1 cyl.

Having gone the opposite way putting a T56 in my QC I had no issue there? I removed the flexplate and bolted on the flywheel with no drilling at all!
04s did use the flywheel to trigger the Crank Position Sensor but mine being an 05 it actually reads the crank and is located on the pass. Side of the blOck.

Possibly the 06 has a different crank or something or you may have the wrong flywheel? Wish I could give you an answer that helps man:dontknow:

And after you call him, post back with what he says! I've wondered what our RC's would feel like with a stiff shifting TH350 or TH400.

Carl (Batram) used I believe another Auto trans in his ..L460 possibly.. there is a thread somewhere on here about it. he also has paddle shifters.

505 I think used the 350 0r 400 turbo in his...

I think FSTJACK has a Turbo in his.

Stinker aren't you using the 48RE in yours..

Yup, Batram's is a 4L80 with standalone tranny controller! There are many
GM 4L80 conversions that have been done.
Stinker did the 48RE but on an 04 or 05.......... not an 06? Something is for sure changed I would say.:dontknow:

He wants to know why his 06 flexplate will not match his 04 motor? Crank snout difference you know of?:dontknow:

Latest info

What I have found out so far. The 06 flex plate has the dowel hole in the wrong place AND the center hole is to large for the crank snout. They got a diesel flex plate and it had no dowel hole and the center hole was to small for the crank snout.
The transmission[six spd] has no hole for mounting a crank sensor and there was not one seen anywhere on the block flange. Does anyone know the location of the crank sensor on an 04?
We have the complete engine/trans wiring harness from the 06, Tony says we will need the entire dash wiring harness also, or use a stand alone trans controller. I also have the computer module from an auto QC.
Checking out a couple of more leads.
Fastlane505- what is the significance of the 2:00 or 4:50 mark? That we should be looking for? On the crank, flex, flywheel, block, bell housing? Is it a post/thread?

I jsut put an 06 auto in my own 04 rc, the flywheel is a trick, but the wiring harness from an 05/06 will not work with the 04 unless you totally rewire it, the stand alone includes a valve body and is about 2 grand

the 04 crank is different it has no pickup on the crank but off the flexplate, the 05/06 is off the crank which can be easily rewired, but to use the 04 block you have to make your own pickup,
replied to your email, but to put this set up in an 04 can be quit a bitch, easily done, but a aggrivation to a certain extent.
could go into more detail , but left you my number, sorry at the moment pulling doubles, gotta grab a couple hours sleep
