First off welcome,Second,If it is a Viper motor then maybe.:D

Well, it is the basis of the early Viper Engine, but not a Viper Engine. Now if you change the induction sytem up with the Viper 8.0 setup it would have to be considered a Viper truck, but not the Production Viper Ram SRT10:D

A V10 Ram is not a Viper truck. But that doesn't mean you are not welcome to hang around and be a part of the community.

You're a hell of a lot closer to being Viper Powered than the "L's" and HEMI's wandering around here

Welcome and post up :D

day'um that was a warm welcome :D and to answer some questions i do wanna look into puttin the viper 8.0 top end on an iron 8.0 i figure if anybody knows it'd be ya'll. im a mechanically inclined individual. but im only 18 so i'll admit i dont know everything lol i got the truck when my grandad passed away and im the second owner. its been in the family as long as i have so im attatched to it. i wanna build power and have fun. :driver: big smokey burnouts are always welcomed

my biggest issue is that i just havent found any info on the casting differences between the iron and aluminum 8.0, honestly if i could just buy the whole top end (heads, cam, lifters, intake) i would and throw them in the iron block with some higher compression pistons. it would suck to buy all the stuff and find out the cooling channels dont align lol

I'd honestly go to a V10 Magnum site and see what knowledge you can muster there. I know IRONHEAD had both an 8.0 and a Viper 8.3 but dunno how much he knows about the block differences between it and the old 8.0 Viper engine?

well personally i know that the bore, stroke, and block length are all the same. and yes, the viper v10 came from a iron block that was sent to lamborghini... they just massaged the top end and shaved weight by cutting the skirt leingth so i couldnt imagie they'd do too much more to a already stout platform... the magnums biggest problems are air flow on both ends so to me thats where i would of spent most of my time if i were redesigning it. not the block itself... makes sense in my mind lol of course there was more but im only focusing on the top end for now.

From another forum:

From the book Dodge Viper by Daniel F. Carney:

Looking back, it seems astonishing that Team Viper was also building a radical new engine from a nearly clean sheet of paper, to a deadline pace. Ruling out the truck engine meant the team members had to build what they wanted themselves.

Said Francois Castaing "It was already April 1989. If we wanted the car to be ready by January 1992, we needed to really get going. But the timing for the truck engine was a year later. It also became obvious, when we looked at it more thoroughly, the weight of the iron engine was too high and the power we would get from it wouldn't be sporty enough." Francois was in charge of truck engineering at the time.

Said Roy Sjoberg , Team Viper's new executive engineer,"We rapidly ascertained, the truck guys and myself, that where we wanted a 6,200-rpm redline, the truck guys didn't really care to go over 4,200 rpm. They were interested in low-end torque, not horsepower at high-rpm levels where we were. They were not concerned about weight. Truckies don't like aluminum blocks. They're not as forgiving, and truck people like to have things that are pretty bulletproof.

"Not a lot could be learned from our truck V-10 development. Both engines were V-10s, but one was aluminum and one was iron; ours was sequential-fire individual-injected, and the truck's was group-injected, so it ended up having air pumps and things. We only needed EGR to meet the initial emission requirements, as well as a catalyst. The truckers had to put some other things on it. We ended up with the same dimension pushrod and that was it. But even there, we used a higher-grade material because of our power and rpm requirements."

In the end, there wasn't a single shared part with the Ram V-10 that was being built elsewhere within Chrysler.

There was a guy who tried to retrofit Gen II heads, etc, onto a V10 Magnum short block, for his Durango. Spend a little time on Google and you will probably find him. At one time he had amassed a lot of parts and was very serious about making it work. In the end, I believe he abandoned the idea.

well hell if thats the case i guess im just lookin for a gen 2 viper motor.. lol im sure i can find an adapter plate for the 47rh. i know they've transplanted a aluminum 8.0 in a durango in petersons 4wd magazine..

well i guess i already knew that... of course they had to make other parts for the viper and ram blocks... but i dunno... just somethin in me really wants to see the gen 2 cross ram intake sittin in my 95 4x4 lol

I have had three of the Iron blocks in different trucks ,they are as different as night and day bubba ,for one the compression ratio is something around 8.5 to one ,,,maybe a tad higher than that but not much ,they had to be seriously detuned because they ate auto transmissions for lunch ,,the blocks and motors were totally forged ,so if you put the time in it you could make them hump ,,for one you had to up compression which made huge gains ,,when they came out though no one had a programmer to do changes when they up HP ,,the heads were so restrictive that it was a chore to port them ,,,most peeps just slapped a super charger on them and called it a day .
I will say this i have seen them out last a Cummings diesel motor many times ,,when they say they were bullet proof they were not talking crap ,,,They also get awful gas mileage even with no cats and headers and a drop in K/N it will only get about 11 to 12 in town driving ,,but they can pull a house down the street if you need it to.
There is really no forums for these motors ,,
Now i have to disappear again ADIOS MUCHACHOS
