Dreaded squeel is back....

When I bot my truck it developed a belt squeel within a few weeks of having it. Pulleys looked good, changed the belt, boom squeel is gone and it's been running like a champ, now it's slowly coming back. It's only on start-up for a minute till it gets warm then it disappears. I WANT IT GONE! I suspected Idler Pulley last time but when I checked it, it wasn't off balance or anything but I'm suspecting power steering now. One, because of the squeel and two, in 4 weeks I've had to refill it from bone dry twice. Only weird part is, they're isn't any signs of a leak. Unlike my last Ram 1500 were I would watch it drip at times, there isn't a spot or anything on the driveway but the p/s fluid is disappearing faster than the gas lol. Any advice guys? I can't stand this crap.

Power steering fluid just doesn't disappear ... It has to be leaking somewhere ! I would suspect the power steering hoses as they are a problem with these trucks .. power steering fluid getting on the belt will make it squeal !

I agree 100% that's why when I checked it and it was dry I couldn't understand because I hadn't left any stains in the drive way.

I would suspect the power steering hoses as they are a problem with these trucks .. power steering fluid getting on the belt will make it squeal !

I do park on a incline with the nose down, do you think it's running onto the belt? That would be amazing if it was kill 2 birds with 1 stone.

I too have had that squeal, when it happens to me, my voltage will read like my battery is dying and the awful squeal will occur and then the voltage will shoot right up and the squeal goes away. Each time that it happens my power steering goes completely out for a few seconds until the voltage shoots up. When it has happened it has mostly been when I was parking at my mother-in-law's house when I stayed there for a couple of weeks and her driveway is on an incline.

I just went out and drove around the block while I was slow at work and not a squeek or anything, I turned(look like I was warming up my tires for the Daytona 500) and not a peep or anything???? I was parked on a even plain in the lot maybe the p/s lines are leaking onto the belt after all?

you may not see the p/s leak because it may be running into the frame i had this happened to me on a regular ram 1500, parked the truck on a sheet of cardboard running and sitting no leaks, drive around all day and the fluid was gone, ended up being the high pressure line it too leaked on the belt a few times causing it to squeel. NSDQ when your voltage goes down does it happen to be raining out usually that is the belt slipping on the alternator pulley

I would check the balancer bolt torque if I was you.

There is a big tray bolted to the bottom of the bumper that will hold alot of oil before showing a leak. the Fan is powered by the powersteering pump. you might have a leak at the fan unit. also check your belt tensioner. it might be faulty and not applying enough belt tension.

Yes it only does it when it rains. Figured it might be water getting in from the hood scoop.

IT probably just needs the idler pulley for the squeak. Just because it looks and feels ok doesnt mean it cant make noise. While you had it off you should of just changed it.
