I believe it is to absorb vibration, is it necessary? probably not. Leave it off and let us know if it feels any different.

only thing i can come up with is its just a gaurd for u-joint :dontknow:I have a parts book and it does not show it in book ,

Dont have much of a choice built trans i have installed ,you can not bolt it to it ,the driveshaft does not even come close to touching it either on other trans ,its just bolted up to tail sectoin ,,,I dont see how it could be to absorb vibration in anyway :dontknow:

Did you come up with that on your own idea or what lol

Yeah I believe it's supposed to dampen vibrations as it does have a rubber piece in it like a harmonic balancer. I doubt it makes any noticeable difference at all since the first tranny I had didn't have it at all and it was not any different. Thanks for the reminder though ironhide. I bet it weighs about 10 lbs at least. I'll unbolt that biatch and rid of it ;)

Guard for u joint? Wtf? Where did you come up with that shiat?:dontknow::chain:
How much does it weigh?

I have seen other cars where they install pieces like that to prevent vibration at certain rpm. You know those automotive engineers like putting unnecessary stuff on vehicles, but in this case I am not 100% sure.

because butthead when drive shaft is installed its right next to yoke of the front u-joint ,and there is no rubber anything on it or in it ,its solid metal and the hole in center is much larger than the rear seal,,,and it weighs almost 8 lbs

Please weigh it and look closer. There is rubber in it as I've inspected it thoroughly in the past during my six speed conversion. Cornhole!!:D

Nice..I was close at saying it was a useless 10lb hunk of steel and RUBBER I'm ridding of. Thanks chief!:)

It is a vibration dampener. Wont hurt to leave it off. Have had both ways, no difference.

i just did that bunghollyo,

no rubber anywhere on it ,its made of two pieces that looks to be spot welded together,i even took a screwdriver and poked around it looking for rubber ,nada

You tell this man that's on his 3rd freaking truck!! Think he's torn into each one as well? Or has Ole Ironhead been paying kids to work on his babies?:D

You meat smoker! Unless your DAMPNER is different from the ones I've seen, there's a ring of rubber separating the two pieces. The face and the outer ring ;)

Ding ding ding!! We have a winner!!
wrong again goobersmoucher ,,Dans was an 05 and did not have it either .

and i heard it both ways ,04 have them also just not all of them :dontknow:
