OK, just not enough time in the day to do both. So for the Registry stuff, would it be better served to bring the Wiki as current as possible, or make the Message board the focus and kill the Wiki.

The Wiki is kinda cool, but does it really serve the intended purpose. The message board is better, there is at least interaction. Over the next 30 days I will be giving this some thought

Your input as always will be helpfull

not to be rude or anything but what is the benefit of the registry or all yoru time? what does it do for " you / me"

The registry provides a ton of good reading for anyone interested in '10 facts. Want to know who the quickest QC or RC cab is? The registry has that. Want to know how many red trucks were made in '04? The registry knows. Ever wondered what really happened to Jimmy Hoffa? Can't help you there. Anyway, the registry is a cool website with lots of great information. It will become even more valuable for future owners as more and more time passes. Imagine if a wise E-Body owner would have had enough to foresight to keep a registry starting in 1970. Such a document would be invaluable to collectors.

Good question...

For me, it's been fun learning

For You, I see very little or no value.

Hope that helps

I'm not sure I understand the difference :dontknow:

Completely housed on a forum like this or static Wikipedia pages

If it's on a forum/Message board, a lot of this will go away. it will be VIN, Build data ect, no frills. Each Viper and Viper truck would have it's own thread showing the godd, the bad and the destroyed

I kinda like the idea of dedicated threads for each truck. Give people an idea of the history behind their truck before they owned it.

Thats not necessarily true and I would only have whats shared. So a truck could be 9 years old at this point and the only thing I have is the VIN, Build Date and Build Sheet

The problem I see with a message board format is that very few owners will take the time to update their trucks thread.

Same arguement for the WIki

Thats why one is going to go

Could either one be updated by anybody? For example if someone started a thread here about changes and modifications to their truck, could you or I add their truck thread on the VTR?

Alright VJ, I love the VTR and think it's one great site for 10 info. I honestly have no idea what either one is. Going off of your description though the message board sounds like a good, if using this method would it share the work load for the owners so your not stuck doing it all yourself?

Yes, the Wiki has been user updateable since day one. Very few have taken that opportunity. The forum setting would be just like here anyone can add (It would just be moderated to keep off the BS), the Wiki is the same way, all changes are moderated

I think most know the forum I'm talking about so we will just leave it at that. This is the link to the Wiki

I didn't know about the forum until you posted this and I went looking.

+1. I didn't spend any time on the registry until yesterday. It's a cool resource that I didn't realize was out there. Maybe an "about" page would be helpful to new users/owners, so we know what we are looking at and how to best utilize it?

tried that

i'd say the wiki would be a better place to house the information in the long run...

forums can have a negative connotation to some, or others don't think they "know what to do" on a forum... whereas wiki is used for research, pics, information, data gathering, and easily searchable.

that's just my opinion...

if i were gonna do it, that's what i'd do...

Also a good point Dan. I know I have better control over backups etc. The biggest problem with the Wiki at this point is it's no longer supported, I've got what I've got. It's also rated at 150 pages, I'm rockin 3k pages and I would end up with 11k on the VTR and close to 30k on the VR. I'm currently searching for a new wiki to use, Wikepedia won't let me add to theres, they delete all my entries. I have a few in mind, either way, I'm starting from scratch or pushing the current Wiki to it's failure point

This is part of the reason this is a question, and so far it looks as if the Wiki is the more usable solution, but I'm still going to take the month and weigh my options and what I want to do
