I had 488,s in my black truck and did not have to shift to 5th in 1/4 ,the rev's are less than 200 rpm over all compaired to 410 ,s I know this because when one other houston member use to cruz with me to PCB had 410,s ,At 95 miles an hour I was 175 rpm higher than he was , ,it will be close but you can make it in 4 th
The consensus seems to be that 4.88's make a stock truck more fun. If you want to go quicker than mid 12's, they are probably too short.
I ran 118.15 on the M&H's with 4.56 gears.....I have never seen your posted speed on here, what were you turning speed wise if the M&H' drag radials were too short? I should add that Chris Jensen moved my rev limiter to 6,200......by my calculation, 118.15 is equal to 6,140 rpm....so I was close to the limiter in the lights.
:bs:at 75mph the math says 300ish rpm difference, at 95mph it's right about 400 rpm difference. 4.56's would only be 165rpm difference at 95 than 4.88's. What was the best time you ever ran in your black truck?
I am at 109 ish and I haven't hit rev limiter but damn close and damn sure not pulling at that rpm. My limiter is at 6200 as well
I don't give a shit about your math ,fact is it was side by side driving with Anthony on way to PCB ,we did it more than once .Long drive and bored lol I thought it would have been higher also but the fact is it was not , Put them in your truck then come back talking BS flag then . I ran them you have not I even thought my mileage would be way less but the difference was way smaller than i thought . Fact is in town driving my mileage went up .
Dude, the numbers don't lie. You may have run them, but 2+2 will always equal 4. In the same way, RPM for speed in gear is empirically calculable with a simple equation.
Exactly! You can't ignore the math Irontits!! I'd love to try 4.10s myself as I think I can gain trap speed! Shorty has an auto therefore you recommendation of 4.88s is not a great idea.
O nurse viper I have a sore left nut can you tighten it for me. Hahaha I will go to 410 myself soon ,in first all I do is spin now even with the drag radials on ,problem is I hate changing out the pinion in these sorry ass rearends
Math doesn't lie...however math does not take into account different tire pressures, variances in tire manufacturers or height differences in tires due to wear or other factors. I had all three gear 4.10/4.56/4.88 and for me and only for me ,the 4.10 are too high, the 4.88 too low and the 4.56 a decent compromise. If I could get what I want next time,it would be 4.30.Why ? I like to wind it out and shift.the 4.10 was just a wee bit too high ,though and the 4.88 had me shifting far too soon for my liking. As for stock 4.56 they are a great compromise.
Just checked mine on the way home tonight. 70mph was just at 1450rpm. 80mph was just at 1700. I have a question tho. How far off is the speedo after the 4.88s. Also, how to adjust to correct???
Great feedback, Nelson! It's good to hear from someone who has tried all three on the stock wheel/tire combo. I always recommend measuring the actual tire height when running calculations. Inputting for a small growth factor doesn't change the formula too drastically.
