Hey guys, seems some of you guys seem very knowledgeable about these cars. What are the pros and cons of the 96-99 GTS? Which year is best, which year to stay away from? I've heard there were different cams? What else? THANKS

96-97 where the only ones that came in blue with white stripes.

98-99 cams have .001 more exhaust lift, but they all sound lope. No real significant differences in the cams.

98 they changed the headers to tubular design and added the airbag shut off. They also changed the dash to textured design.

99 they upgraded the interior with power windows, new shifter, and better looking door handles. They also changed the rims and removed the fog light covers. ACR options and cognac interior were added.

I like the look of the upgraded interior in the 99s and that was one of the reasons I bought that year. Big issue when looking for a Viper is the color combo you're looking for, not all colors were offered every year.

Can't go wrong with any 96-99 Viper:burnout:

I never met one I didn't like. :D

When I was younger my fiance's father had rented a blue w/white GTS for a weekend, I had always thought it was a 98! And because of that I always wanted a blue/white 98... and now I've been told they don't exist.. Lol! Guess I won't be buying one of those. LMAO

Wait, do you mean to tell me Santa Claus isn't real either??

'99's supposed to be the only year with a forged engine from the factory

That brings up another question. Where was the cut-off? Other words, were there any late built 99's with pmr's or cast pistons OR any early built 2000 cars with forged internals?

Actually all pre 00 motors are forged. Gen 1s lack the tuning capabilities of the gen 2s, but the motors are just as strong..

Never heard of any carry over 99 engines. You can tell by dropping the oil pan and looking at the bottoms of the pistons to see if you have cream puff or forged internals.

He wanted to show everybody all his hard work in the gym, look how huge his neck got.
Nice work brother
