I went over to visit with venomous 1 and Mr. Goat today and on my way home I decided to stop at the stealership and get me another key and a keyless entry fob since mine did not come with one when I bought it. So the dealer says my truck is not communicating with their computer and they cant get the key or the remote to work. The key will start the truck but it will only run for about 3 seconds and then shut off. My old key works fine. And they were unable top program my keyless entry remote. Any ideas? They want me to come back on Monday when their more experienced guy is there.

They were unsuccessful in syncing it with the SKIM (Security System). The new key will never work until it is sync'd

And how might they sync it? They claimed my truck would not communicate with their computer. They want me to come back Monday for diagnostic at 105.00 dollars an hour. BS!!!!!!

I would say your last sentence says it all. "We have NO IDEA what the HELL were doing So please come back when somebody who knows something is here and can help you"

In the service manual (you can download) it has the syncing instructions. Sorry, I don't have a link I can get to at the moment

I agree but I don't want to pay for diagnostic. Does it have to happen at a Dodge dealership? My dad works for a ford dealer and if they could do it I could probably get it free.

Looks like without 2 working keys you have to take it to the dealer to have it programmed some locksmiths can program the key too, usually cheaper than the dealer. Or, cut the chip outta your key and glue it inside the steering column trim and then you can use any key you'd like

It was the dodge dealer in Waco. I am just concerned with paying diagnostic if someone didn't know what they were doing. It gives me code P1685 with the new key which is a SKIM code.

Is there another Dodge dealership that you can try? At $105.00 per hour you need to find someone that knows what they are doing. $105.00 is a tank of gas & a Snickers for Christ sake.

You're going to get 1685 with a key that's not programmed. My guess is you has someone young that was trying to program it with a Wi tech and not a DRBIII or they were trying to access the BCM not the cluster. Younger techs make that mistake. DRBIII hasn't been used in almost 9 years.

Like I said if you're near me I can program it for you

The guy was pretty young. In his 20's probably. I am going to try the dealer in Gatesville this morning and if not then ill bit you up. Georgetown is about an hour away so not too far of a drive if needed. What dealer do you work for?

He's at Mak Haik Georgetown. Robert is a great guy and help with some TSB and recall info as well. And he has a beast 2014 SRT8 GC ;).
That being said, you should go back to Waco Dodge and ask for James in Parts or Mike in Service. Joe W. is a great tech there that can get you fixed up ;)
Like they said, may be Monday though. I know they're open today but not sure what techs are there.

I'm taken care of. I made a quick trip out to Gatesville to another dealer and they had no problem 10 minutes later I had a new working key and remote. They told me Waco was likely using the wrong programmer or trying to access the wrong module. I'm glad I didn't pay for diagnostic and they gave me my access pin number.
