Need a new head gasket...

better to get cometic's. small compression bump. you will notice the difference.

DAMN! this thread bothers me! the head gaskets are not a problem on these trucks! If the engine overheated it could have a cracked head . be prepared! something is amiss!

Well I am happy to say that the engine NEVER overheated, as a matter of fact, it has never run even hotter than normal. Though, I've only driven it <20 miles in 5 mile intervals since the leak became noticeable. They're diving into the engine sometime next week, I'm just as curious as all of you. But that's two reputable shops that aren't linked and I didn't tell the second shop anything whatsoever-and they told me it was a leak near the 10th cyl.

Yes indeed use new head bolts sir! I'll check on those as well for ya.

but those aren't gen 4 thickness correct??

If you are going to use a different thickness headgasket (Gen IV), then its recommended that you mill the intake side accordingly. Its a small enough difference that it increases compression, but also creates an offset at the intake-to-head interface. It "not" necessary, but it helps maintain the OEM port matching. Any quality performance shop that decks heads will also deck the intake.

Just food for thought.

Well, after investigation, the ONLY thing that the mechanic could find, was that the 10th bolt was not as tight as all the rest. When he checked everything for trueness, he said that he lays some tool across the surface, takes 3 measurements, adds and then divides by three, and it has to be below a certain number, annnnnd he said he couldn't even get a measurement off of mine because they were that perfectly true!!! Have to say I'm amazed! Can't wait to have it back. Should be this week hopefully!!!! :burnout::burnout::burnout:

Thanks! Im getting anxious to say the least!! Looking to have it remote tuned first week of march if all goes well!

Very glad you found someone who knows their stuff and that it was basically nothing major.

Very interesting..
I say this because right after Christmas I began a heads project on my truck.. when removing the head bolts I noticed the one behind the alternator, but under the valve cover was loose when compared to all the others..

Mine is also an 04.. might not be a bad idea for guys to start checking thier head bolts..

Nice, something else wrong with these trucks, something else to "CHECK", great, just great...........

So in other words someone forgot to tighten the same bolt on a bunch of these, so much for Viper quality control, oil lines, ps lines, balancer bolts, head bolts, coils and wires under the intake, weak valve springs/pushrods, ps pumps, hydraulic cooling fan, poor clutch hydraulics..................................................lions and tigers and bears, OH MY!!!!
