Realizing I am a little late to the SRT-10 party and sure most here know about this I thought I would pass this along to those that are new and not up on ALL the ins and outs with our trucks. :dontknow:

When Scott modified my tranny he ordered a torque converter from a “REPUTABLE†tranny guy. The “REPUTABLE†tranny guy sent him a stall converter in 10†diameter. This if perfectly fine if you are only going to drag race the truck but if you are gonna use it as a DD then beware that our QC’s came with a “13†converter. Difference------HEAT, and lots of it. DD our 10’s builds up so much heat that it quickly burns the converter clutches which stops up the filter then totals the tranny. 10 grand and 3 rebuilds later I learned the lesson. :( Scott’s fault, nope, he admits he is not an automatic transmission guy and relied on the ‘EXPERT†to send the right converter. Bottom line, the “REPUTABLE†“EXPERT†tranny guy did not ask the right questions of his customer. PATC in Bossier City La. diagnosed the problem, fixed it and all is well. Rusty at TCS is the ‘REPUTALBE EXPERT†that cost me a ton of money and refused to honor any kind of warrantee and lied to boot.

It is running great with almost 10,000 miles since the overhaul and now runs like it is supposed to. Smoked a Beamer last night from a 40mph rolling. He wanted to keep ahead of me and that was not meant to be. Floor boarded the gas and it jumped into 2nd smoking the tires. I let off after I was 3 lengths ahead. All is well that ends well.:rock::rock:

I don't see the problem with a 10" converter. I have a car that weighs 4800, and it is daily driven with a 5000 stall 9" converter. Put a trans cooler on it.

Is the new converter u went with lighter than the stock one. What are the specs on the new one from PATC?

I ain't no tranny expert but the guys at PATC said they did not know how it ran as long as it did. According to them the 10" was used to lighten weight, hp weight that the engine has to rotate and was intended for racing only. Checked with two other sources (both of which own repair shops and drag race) and they confirmed that the 10" would build more heat than the 13" Me, I don't know :dontknow: but when your dealing with a tranny torque builder that ships $15 million a year in parts ya gotta think just maybe they know what they are talking about. :D

The tranny was rebuilt with heavy duty clutches, an 8 clutch hub rather than the 5 hub it came with and a 13" torque converter. Everything but the billet shaft and we know that is for drag racing---not DD. :D

I can tell u that I have Rustys converter in my tranny rt now and haven't had an issue yet but I also have a tranny temp gauge and haven't had any issues with getting too hot yet. Ill definitely keep an eye on it though.

It is either the heat or he build 2 faulty converters. Both had the clutches disintegrate. :dontknow: Right now I willing to take the word of the guys that gave me a guarantee. Please do keep an eye on it and how many miles are on it so far?

So your saying the great Dr Viper got the wrong size converter from his connection and installed it anyway and you are blaming the supplier that HE got it from .Seems to me that the installer should have noticed the BIG diff in size and would have sent it back to get right one:stupid: . JMHO.

As usually, ragging on someone. You really don't like Scott do ya. Yeah, Scott ain't a god like you and is fallible. Seems you add so little in the way of information to this site, just harassing folks and smart mouthing. Me thinking the name "Iron Head" is appropriate. You must live a pretty sad life.

Try reading my post with an open mind---if that's possible. Scott said he was not an expert on tranny's as you are and therefore made a mistake. I had to threaten him to take labor on future work as he felt so rotten about the mistake. But, Iron Head does not make mistakes so probably would not understand. I bet living with you is real fun----spelled nightmare.

Love how you rear your ugly head in any instance to down me! Get a life Man:burnout:
I knew exactly the size and knew others running the same converter. Some had luck, others trannys have since failed. The lockup clutches in the converter were at fault both Instances. TCS recommends this converter and it was well recommended. It is not right for our applications by far. Maybe on a strip only truck, but not a 85mph Daily Driver. Both instances were failures in the cage that resides with the lockup clutches. His mileage decreases as result and we tried locating and diagnosing the issue. I found he wasn't locking up in O/D once again. We kept eye on fluids, filter and magnet to determine wear, if any, and we kept finding nothing on the two attempts after many thousand miles between. Eventually it went out resulting in the clutch material going through tranny and burning clutches.
That's in a nutshell Ironlung so hope that appeases your need to try and knock me or my work.
Good day sir

With all the crying about your trans I think my question was right up the proper tree trunk bubba .Specially since said installer bad mouths every other vendor or installer .
Not bad mouthing his work,I'm sure he does some good things also . But with all the money you are giving him if he is buying sub par parts from someone then I think it should be exposed as the rip off it was .
And just for your info, Scotty boy fired the first round at me along time ago .

Not to mention if this were another vendor this happen to he would be beating that dead horse for everything he could reap from it .

It was exposed smartass! TCS sells subpar shit! And I badmouth other vendors huh? I've had issue with one and that's it! Water under the bridge but you're so good at beating dead horses have at it. It was the first stall converter I sold and last from Rusty. I learned my lesson as did Shorty and others. Now go crawl back in your shack and have done more liquor or whatever you do that depresses you so much.
Good day :burnout:

You really are sick gutter boy. Bet your family loves you filthy mouth.
By the way, thanks for stopping me for a cup of coffee when you saw me in Manvel. On second thought, thanks for not stopping me, probly ruined a whole month and not just a day with your sour attitude.
Would wish you a happy day but betting you have not had one of those for years.
