We all know how the tire selling folks refuse to put your 2 new tires on the front cause on wet pavement they don't want your rear tires passing the front end. I bought 2 new tires yesterday and low and behold Discount Tire here in the DFW area said they would put them on the front at my request. Said he didn't know why the change in policy but the entire company would install the best to the front at the customers request.

Granted, I have not had a blow out in 40 years but always like the best on the front just in case. With so much weight on our front end and the speeds some of cruise on the West Texas highways I just like the margin of safety afforded with the extra rubber on the front tires.

Lacked 360 miles hitting 50,000 on those Goodyear tires. Granted 90% of my driving was on the highway but that still ain't shabby.

never heard of that prob before.

i use discount tire also & they will put them any where you ask them to.

like you, i like the best tires on the front.

thought at first, by the title, you had found a stash of B.F.G.'s:drool::drool::drool::D

ha, no but for the last 3 years here in Texas they refused to put new tires on the front if you were buying only 2.

time for an internet fight!!

putting the best tires on the front isn't advised.

the first tires cut the water, the rears are there to deal with the washout and disrupted water trough the fronts cut.
you want the best on the rears to shed water and keep your ass end stable. FWD, AWD, or RWD, doesn't matter...

of course, nobody should be riding around on tires below the wear bars in the first place but we all know how that goes...

Cepting for this year (anomaly) we Texans get average of 12" rain per year. I would guess that we get less than 30 rain days out of 365. But----we do drive rather high speeds in the western part of the state. A new Vet and I played in "mexico" and let of the gas at 140 mph (neck and neck by the way). For that good sir, I want the best on the front. I promise to drive slower when it rains. :D

Maybe they just got "tired" of arguing with people lol

Dan knows all about spinning out on wet roads, right Dan?

I'm glad they are putting them where ya want now. Maybe I just go to un-reputable tire shops but, when I'd ask for a tire or 2 they'd put it where I request. I haven't bought less than 4 at a time in a while though as I rotate religiously.

I stopped rotating years ago when I was much poorer. Could afford 2 tires much easier than 4. Surprisingly I am getting about the same miles from mine as they always in the past put the new ones on the back. Been getting 45 to 52,000 out of each tire but remembering I do 95% of my driving on the speedway, better known as highway in other part of the country. Now that I have stopped most of the highway driving I am sure that will decrease. Never had side or rounding wear on any tire, always wore even right across the tread. Hoping I get to go thru another 2 or 3 sets before the engine quits for good. I am at 108,000 miles right now.

I hear ya on the two tires when broke. When I was broke I just drove them till the belts came out or until I could find one at the junkyard with the least dry rot. :D

Was a hoot when one would let go. Course the old sheet metal fenders could withstand a hard beating, not like our 10's. Funny, tread gone and if your were careful you could get back into town (used mainly for hunting) on the inflated core. Oh me, those were the days.

yep yep:rock::rock::rock:

Used to run nothing but re-caps on my '48 Willis Jeep. Course it never ever got over 60 mph but they sure were cheap.

on 3-4 day weekends (basically any major holiday in the military) that z28 made regular 700 mile trips between ft carson colorado and mid western missouri, i was too young to think about what would happen at 70-80 mph or how i would get back to post and not get an Article 15 for missing formation

Ha, Ha, back in '65 I got an Article 15 for drinking under age off base. Hand carried my records from Ft Sam in San Antonio to Ft Bragg. On the plane I found the Article 15, tore it out, flushed it down the commode and never heard another word about it. Go a good conduct medal when discharged and told you could not get one with an Article 15. Of course now, all in on computer so would need to NSA hack to remove it now. Life was so simple and wonderful back then.
