2005 regular cab bought used reverse lights didn't work. Tried to fix it by changing the reverse switch worked for a few days gave out. Tested the wiring from the switch didn't blow the fuse wiring should be ok. Changed the reverse lights are ok. Changed the rear lights to l.e.d. did the same thing. What am I missing that's causing the fuse to blow. 15 amp fuse reverse. I need to have this fixed for safety reasons. Please help.

Looking at the FSM for a 2004 RC I'm going to assume here the '04 and '05 are similar. It appears that there's an interconnect to the trailer towing package plug in. Have you dug that out of the frame and taken a look at the connector to insure it's not shorted out someplace ?

I took a quick notice to the trailer plug in but havent tested it. Can I find that schematic online to see what I'm supposed to look for i.e. power, ground, continuity.

I did change the blown 15 amp fuse taillights worked for a bit and then fuse blown went thru like 5 reverse lights switch work for a bit and then blows the fuse.

when I was searching for light problems I was having ... took me a damn year to finally find it .. I checked everything I could and read about on the web ...
problems I read about are :
Fuses
Fuse box multi bullshit box , runs everything ,, possible corrosion , broken wires or circuitry Damage .
Turn signal multi switch
Bulbs
Bulb circuit boards
Corrosion at the Trailer wire plugs

I checked things many many times literally over a years time .
Weird things were going on .. different then yours but still pertained to all the rear lights ...
head lights off lights worked except the right left brake light real dim .. headlights on things got real goofy ,, one back up light off and didn’t work at all when put into reverse , turn signal left rear won’t work .. dash blinker light blinking fast
I checked for power with a test light , replace and checked both rear circuit boards , cleaned and check connections at the fuse box, turn signal multi switch , trailer hitch ... nothing I could find .. check again and again ... was thinking I would have to replace the entire fuse bs runs everything box ... not cheap at all ... said bullshit to that , it’s a damn light problem .. so I continued periodically when I had time to check things again and again ..
well the last time I checked it I crawled under the back of the truck to check out the trailer hitch plug again .. I just happened to look up at the left side frame are and saw 2broken wires barely hanging out of a hole in the frame/body , they were the wires to the left tail light and who knows what else ... no idea how those wires got broken ... but spliced them Bach together and everything worked as it should ... give the good old days when things were wired per circuit not all bundled to run crap from one location ... see pic ... of the wires I found and fixed ..I have no idea how my test light lit up and showed player to the tail lights ...

I feel the same way you do I been checking what makes sense to check I haven't been in the rear of the truck or checked the trailer hitch plug. What makes sense is if I replace the fuse the lights will work. For a bit so power is flowing and going to ground just somewhere it's shorting before ground and or the load or sensor and blows the fuse to protect the circuitry. So I'm just scratching my head and like I need to check the whole wiring and like you said it's part of the main harness just branches out everywhere a pain to look for and time is limited with normal life. But I will check the rear area were you found your issue and see if mine can be there as well.

I found this on the wiring doesnt look stock to me. This goes into the trailer wiring connector. But I dont know if this is still causing my reverse lights not to work and keeps popping fuses. At this point I'm looking to pay someone local to me who can fix this for me. Someone who has gone thru this specific issue.
