So scary either way! Get it and grow a third eye and still possibly get the bug, don't get and take your chance with the bug! This is getting old

    Then so are we!

True! I have taken my truck to the Dodge dealership on several occasions only to find out that they didn’t have a mechanic that knew the difference between my engine and a regular engine (or at least how to work on a V-10). Needless to say, the maintenance has been less than desirable. A simple spark plug change a few months ago left me with a check engine light and a P035, P038 code. My truck has been in the shop for over a month (July 13) and I haven’t been able to get the maintenance supervisor to do a diagnostic on it yet!!! He tells me that I need a new engine and that my engine has no oil pressure, but I don’t think he’s being genuine. I think he is trying to get me to go the new engine route so that he can get my old engine because he knows that it would be a huge job to replace the engine and he could make a nice profit on getting my old one. It has been an epic challenge to find a good, honest mechanic…

That is terrible. I have no one here in NZ that would be up to speed working on these trucks. I had to find a really good mechanic, that can work on anything, and they had to work it out as they go. So far so good. They put new head gaskets on and I have no complaints yet.....touch wood.
P0305 is a misfire on cylinder 5 and p0308 is a misfire on cylinder 8. Mostly spark plug or lead or even coil.
Only in extreme cases would that be a catastrophic engine failure. You would get smoke out of oil filler cap exhaust etc, oil in coolant (goes brown) coolant in oil. If no bangs clunks were heard and none of these symptoms were seen then......Get it out of there

Oh yeah! These engines, in running conditon, can fetch $7-10k easily (more if they're low-mileage and very clean.) Hell, I'd suspect a blown one would still net around $2-3K.

These motors are very basic by modern engine standards. Any mechanic should be able to work on them.
Hell even I put coils leads and plugs in mine last year. Getting the right 1/4 drive sockets and extensions to get the inlet manifold off was the hardest part. The hardest part is reaching inside the hood as the motor is set low and right back against the firewall.
If they put new plugs in and it is now miss firing I would be looking at leads. To do that you take the inlet manifold off so you may as well put new coils on at same time as they are cheap as chips or upgrade to Screamin' Demon coils and Live Wires (Performance Distributors) as I did and get a better spark and run a wider plug gap and better burn

Your oil pressure gauge not working? As for maintenance, I have all of my work done at a speed shop, never had any trouble.

Hello would it be cheaper to just call X2 builders for another Gen3 swap? I know they carry em in their inventory.
