I always warn everyone about these places... if you guys saw the butchered PCM's that come through here from these other rebuilders, you would never, ever consider the option of a generic rebuilder.
Its the customers option, as always of course, but the negative here is that a butchered PCM will likely cause you to lose your core value as well, as once these guys butcher it, repairing is no longer possible. That's a BIG chunk of change. Figure if you pay the diag fee and they cannot repair it or you have a repeat failure, and you lose your core value... you just ate 100-400 on top of having to buy the new ECU outright and eat the core charge. Ouch. What I am also getting at is that most of the time, they are going to charge the diag fee or half-ass a repair, and then send it back to you with more damage than you started with. Its gotten so bad that we generally always check any rebuilt ECUs for damage before accepting cores. They have a nasty habit of destroying boards with screwdrivers when the $7.50 an hour "technical specialist" pries the case apart, then says "unrepairable" and glues it back together and send it back... making a quick hundred bucks for doing more damage.
Also for what its worth, the number of repairable PCM's that come through here that actually make financial sense to repair -properly- on a case by case basis is rather limited. We batch them out on a core program, as its the only thing that makes sense to do. The vast majority of the time these "unrepairable" ECU's can be repaired, its just not worth doing so as a singular item, or is beyond the scope of basic rebuilders.
