06 Ram SRT-10 RC or 2nd Gen Viper?

thanks for the info as I am on the prowl, I though 98 has a red with white stripe? I think if I went 99 I would go black with black rims...black tint!!! and TT.

Other colors were available in those years. I was just saying that if you wanted a silver or black GTS, you were limited to certain years.:)

Could you elaborate a little on why you would choose the Viper? I am very interested in everyone's opinions who have both (although you have a QC and not an RC). Thanks!

Thanks everyone for your opinions!!!! :D

Just because it is a viper, there is nothing like them I get rave compliments about it everytime I have it out. I'm lucky enough to have both, like I said, if I had to choose I would probably go with the viper it is very fun to drive and is an awesome machine. But I do enjoy the truck! :D

You are trying to compare two different beasts.............cept they have the same engine....... You really need to define what you want, either a fast truck which will feel big compared, to a small car with a (big engine).

I love my truck because its roomy. I am 6.2 210 lbs, I feel very comfortable in it. While I have not driven a Viper, I imagine it sits as low a z06 vette which my good friend owns. While that car hauls ass, I dont like the ass dragging on the ground feel it has.

My truck feels like the muscle car of the late 60's that I never owned. Raw, loud, powerful, American muscle........that its in the shell of a truck......just makes it cool. Dont get me wrong, Viper cars are awesome.....its just a completly different beast. If I had room.......I wouldnt mind having both too.

Thanks for the additional info!

I am leaning towards the Viper for many reasons but also because it would be a totally different driving experience than the truck I drive everyday (although my truck is nothing like an SRT-10 Ram).

I'm sure many will not agree with this....but I don't get how you want to pay the same money for a 10 year old car as you would for a brand new truck, with a warranty, and the car doesn't cool as well, rides worse than the truck, and they are both some of the fastest in their respective categories...

Like you, I'm from Texas (DFW) and a truck guy.....I love Vipers, but there is nothing nicer that being able to sit up like in a truck, have the same six speed in the RC as the viper, and blow peoples doors off :D

my two cents...

I've been fighting with the same thoughts....that is why this decision is so difficult, there are many pros and cons for both. Thanks for the input!

Where are you in Houston? I am on the south side. If you want to go for a "test" drive to see what a 5000lb truck can do let me know...

if your getting a viper, a 99 is the best year to go....

They have the forged pistons, the 708 cam, and the new interior. The only thing they lack is the ABS...

so the question is....a 99 or a Viper Truck...tough call, both are great vehicles. I would take both as they are both 100% different in driving. The car you expect to be fast, and it is...the truck you don't expect to be fast and it blows you away. It is 2 different feeling, but the truck is WAY more comfortable hehe

I grew up in League City, lived there from 1974-1993, went to A&M, then moved to Manvel. Just moved to the NW side of Houston earlier this year. I might just take you up on that offer, when is usually good for you? Thank you very much for offering!

So if you had my daily driver, which one would ya pick???? :D

I like the 99 Viper the best also, however the colors I like are not available that year (blue with white stripes or the greys).

I'd say this really comes down to if you want a comfortable, powerful sleeper (the truck) or an over-the-top sports car that gets random boobies shown to it. They are both great vehicles in their respective categories.
Going from a Viper car to the SRT Ram, the biggest surprise to me is how few people in the general public even knew there was a SRT Ram and just considered it another pickup. The Viper on the other hand means 95% of the time you stop for gas etc people come over and ask questions/snap pictures on their camera phones etc.

I have had a 2001 GTS ACR (Blue with Silver). I would ask, how do you plan on driving it? We just went on a 300 mile trip this weekend, and OMG that is a very long distance in a Viper. I think the SRT Viper is more comfortable and rides better than the Gen I and IIs. The heat, adrenaline, and the constant concern of wondering what the idiots in the parking lot are doing to your car can wear you out, but I still love it. I am very fortunate to have both right now, so it is a very tough decision, but I woudl rather have the Viper. The truck is the Viper I can drive anywhere, and no one knows what it is. They think it is some loud truck I modified. I love them both, but woudl still pick the Viper over the truck, but I am certainly not getting rid of either anytime soon.

BTW the picture is from the drive this weekend. We drove to Trail Ridge Road. 14,000 ft in altitude. And yes it can snow almost any time at that altitude. They had a foot of snow earlier in the week.

I will drive it back and forth from work (7 miles each way), on the weekends, and short day trips. I doubt I will do any significant travelling with it. I've tried to like the SRT Vipers as much as the Gen II's, but I just like the Gen II's better (although they are not as refined as the SRT's). Thank you for the opinions!

Well, I had decided on a Gen II Viper and bid on a 1996 Blue with White Stripe GTS. I ended up losing with 2 seconds left in the auction. So I am back to square one. My problem is my budget is 35k or so for a Viper, and it is hard to find one that cheap for a Gen II GTS. So I guess I will keep watchin and keep my options open for the future. Here is my list of current candidates (subject to change)...... :D

- 1996 or 1997 Blue with White Stripe Viper GTS
- 2000 Steel Gray Viper GTS
- 2002 Graphite Gray Viper GTS
- 2006 Mineral Gray Ram SRT-10 RC
