11,000 mi in 1.5 years - clutch failure

MY stock clutch has been abused. and is still workin really good. just over 25.000. I dont care for the tactics the service reps have at the dealers. they think we will fall for the B.S. they try and pull.

me neither. i've actually found the service reps at all of the dealerships i have dealt with in the past 10 years to be good. i think a big part of my success is that i really go out of my way to be polite, friendly, and understanding. kill 'em with kindness, and it works in most service departments, because most of the service guys are regular old car guys like you and me. i also of course make sure they get the impression that i know all about my vehicles, the common problems, costs, prices, etc.

my Chevy dealers in particular have been good. i had a blown 600HP C5 Vette that i took in for regular maintenance and assorted repairs. i let them know right off the bat that i didn't expect them to pay for any repairs caused by my modifications. they were cool with that, and fixed other things still covered. and they were smart enough to know not to reflash my PCM, or change any fluids, plugs, filters without doublechecking with me first.

managers, salesmen, finance dept, GMs, etc on the other hand are usually cutthroat, lying bastards. my SRT-10 purchase went good though. took me literally 30 seconds of negotiation with the sales mgr ....

he asked if i wanted to drive it home that day. (duh!)

i replied that i did, but said there was no way i was paying sticker for a new model that was two years old and had a current market value of about $40k.

he offered me $39,900.

i asked if he would do that at 0% for 72 mo, and told him i had A+ credit.

he said sure. we shook on it, i signed some papers, and drove it off the lot 15 min later.

follow-up: got the truck back today from the dealership. it was the clutch slave, and it was repaired under warranty. also, i had a small oil cooler hose leak that was repaired under warranty too. i've driven the truck about 30 miles since then and it feels and drives like new. :)
