Damn... doesn't seem like enough.

One thing to keep in mind on sell private party vs trade, at least here in AZ, is the tax difference. With a trade-in, you're taxed on the difference, not the new vehicle price. So, you have to sell it private party at the trade-in offer plus your tax rate.

I think he lowballed you a bit even especially on a trade. Just my opinion

That's the reason you should always sell privately. Dealers will always give you less then private, honest dealers will tell you this although their insight isn't needed as it's blatantly obvious. Why trade it for less when you can get more selling it yourself? IMO, "them" having to make a margin is their problem, not yours. Don't rush things, sell it privately and make several thousand more for yourself.
