Because the horsepower and torque drop off after 5500 rpms on these motors unless you have a turbo or supercharger.;)

Even with a supercharger!

You still want to shift up around 5800-6k that way when you hit the next gear you stay in the power band.

I don't understand your reasoning...once your engine output starts to decline, you need to be in the next gear where you are at maximizing your output...please explain your point. Just seems to me that the optimum performance is achieved by using the optimum horsepower and torque in each gear, and then moving to the next gear at the moment your output has reached its highest point...the power band is a broad range in this vehicle... not a narrow band...what am I missing here?

There was a thread on this over at the NFFF. If I recall correctly it was determined that 1st gear should be run up a little over 5500 and 2nd/3rd gears should be shifted at 5500. For both reasons mentioned 1) falling off the power band in the gear your in and 2) being in the optimum power band when you hit the next gear.:burnout:

thats what i do.

I personaly think you drop to far down in rpms for the next gear. Shifting at 5500 made it sound like it bogged.

I only run it up that high when racing.Normal driving I shift around 2500.Mine is way too loud to rev it up that high all the time.

yeah me too, I set it at 5500 when on drag track but when I'm just driving around I set it at 2200 to bring alittle more loud
