2014 Detroit Gold Cup Hydroplane Pics and Video

The oldest trophy of all motor sports belongs to the A.P.B.A. named the "Gold Cup". On July 13, 2014 the Gold Cup was given to the youngest winner named Jimmy Shane piloting the U-6 Oberto Hydroplane.

I grew up in the Seattle metro area and as kids we knew it was high summer when the hydros hit Lake Washington. Many years ago my Dad took me down to the pits and we watched drivers like Dean Chenoweth and Bill Muncey face off..familiar boats like Miss Pay n' Pak, Miss Budweiser, Miss Thriftway, Miss Atlas Van Lines and Miss Circus Circus and others . As kids we made scaled down hydros out of wood and towed them behind our bikes...those were fun summers.
