What kind of time could one gain in the Qtr Mi by simply replacing the 05's stock 4.56 gears for 4.88's? Would it be even more significant in the 1/8 mi? Thanks,
Michael

At 75 I believe mine is around 24-2500.ARRESTmeRed04 said:not sure i've ever heard of anyone putting 4.88's in a QC, how many RPM's does a QC run at 70mph stock?
With your rear tire at 33" high, 4.56:1 gears you do not have to shift into 5th gear in the 1/4-mile.FATJACK said:Honestly, very little difference, seems to help in the 1/8 mi some. We are supposed to go to a 1/4 mi track next Sunday will be able to tell you more after that. If you were going from the 4.10's to 4.88's it makes a huge difference, not so much from the 4.56's.
That seems to be your guys weak-point. Your auto/trans. and your tq. mgmt. system that runs it all. Some of the Q/C owners go through auto/trans. more than we go through clutches.precisiondyeing said:Quick, how do you think it would be effected in an auto QC?
4.88's would be easyer on the trans just like it's easyer on our clutches...QuickSilver said:That seems to be your guys weak-point. Your auto/trans. and your tq. mgmt. system that runs it all. Some of the Q/C owners go through auto/trans. more than we go through clutches.
Again by putting the lower gears in, you'll put more strain on the trans......she'll run for awhile just fine.

only 200rpm at highway speeds though, and you could always add an external cooler. Something to think about thoughTNVIPER said:Actually Quick may be right....the higher rpm of the trans gears will cause more heat....because of this some owner manuals do not recommend using tow/haul unless needed..

For the difference in the gear ratios it would be more cost effective to use a shorter DR . This would keep your stock gearing on the road and give you the lower final gear ratio you need at the track.precisiondyeing said:What kind of time could one gain in the Qtr Mi by simply replacing the 05's stock 4.56 gears for 4.88's?
