I mainly run the 1/8 IF I go to the track. My question is: What would be the best choice in gears? 4.56 or 4.88? Truck is all stock with 4.10's now, and I want a little more kick in 3rd gear without having to shift into 4th. What is the best combo and where is the best place to get a set at a good price?:burnout:

what MPH do you run in the 1/8th now? i think you'd be real close to 4th with the 4.88's
3rd gear at 6000rpm with a 31inch tall tire would be 87MPH, you might just look into getting some short 26" tall slicks, you'll have to hit 4th gear in the 1/8 mile but i was able to run 7.90's in the 1/8 mile with them

4:88's all the way! From 4:10 to 4:88's will feel like you have an additional 40 HP, best non motor MOD there is!!

Traction will be much more of a problem though!!

PM FatJack and he can tell you all about 1/8 and the 4.88s......he had some trouble shifting into 3rd at WOT after installing the 4.88s....not sure if he resolved the issue..:dontknow:

I am running a slow 82mph now and have to hit 3rd(if I can hit it) before the stripe. Since I have to hit 3rd anyway, I want to run it out without hitting 4th. I dont drive the 10 much and will probably get some soft compound 22' tires when the toyo's are shot. So what gear set would run 3rd out without shifting and give the most kick at the top 3rd? Math is not my strong point....hehe.:dontknow:

Transmission 6-speed manual
Final-drive ratio 4.11:1, limited slip
Gear Ratio Mph/1000 rpm Max test speed
I - 2.66 - 8.3 - 50 mph (6000 rpm)
II - 1.78 - 12.4 - 74 mph (6000 rpm)
III - 1.30 - 17.0 - 102 mph (6000 rpm)
IV - 1.00 - 22.1 - 133 mph (6000 rpm)
V - 0.74 - 29.8 - 153 mph (5100 rpm)
VI - 0.50 - 44.2 - 153 mph (3500 rpm)

Okay, some quick conversions for 4.56 gears.
I - 44.5 mph @ 6000rpm
II - 65.9 mph @ 6000rpm
III - 90.8 mph @ 6000rpm
IV - 118.4 mph @ 6000rpm
V - 153 mph = 5726rpm (160.3 mph @ 6000rpm)
VI - 153 mph = 3930rpm (6000rpm in sixth? To damn fast)

For 4.88's
I - 41.4 @ 6000rpm
II - 61.3 @ 6000rpm
III - 84.4 @ 6000rpm
IV - 110.1 @ 6000rpm

New tires might help me with a little more traction. I have some wheel spin now in 1st and 2nd on the track.

Looks like the 4.56 would be about right for the 1/8.

04 has 4.11's stock.

not sure if they are correct or not bud, our axles are a bitch to mess with, but I do know the 4.10 in the 04's will swap directly with the 05's, but only the mopar version, an aftermarket 4.56 does not work

little hands:p

the tone ring and carrier are machined differenty from say a regular carrier on a normal dana rear axle,

such as going to a 4.88, the carrier has to be changed due to the way our eom carriers are machined.

or at least thats what I have run into via unitrax
