I wonder if the new allison would bolt to a 5.9 and if that my inturn bolt to a SRT-10

I drove a 08 cummins yesterday and man that tranny is great................

The new cummins does not have a Allison tranny it is a Aisen, I believe thats how you spell it.

its a diesel tranny, i wonder if it can handle the rpm's and the weight would be considerably more than a 48re, but they do shift smooth as hell. also with power adders they are 4 to 5k to upgrade too.

YES SIR YOUR RIGHT MY NEW 08 5500 CUMMINS HAS THAT TRANNY

A 6sp auto would be awesome behind these trucks, 4.88 gear ratio and better highway fuel economy!!!!

It would work great as long as you never went above 3,500 rpm....

I,ve been thinking about this for quite awhile,Here are some of the obstacles:

Trans weighs aprox 485 lbs.(torque convertor weighs 65 lbs)
Dimensions are huge by gigantic
Custom trans bracket and driveshaft
Custom shift linkage and shifter
Cost - Aprox $5,000 plus
Could be bought as a stand alone unit(T.C.M. must be wired to other modules Bus systems)(communication is needed for vehicle speed, throttle position, ect.)
The diesels run to about 3,500 rpm max(line pressure concerns above that)
Custom torque convertor
Will the starter work/fit???
Will it actually bolt on???
Probably more unknowns to overcome!!!
Now for the plus's!!
3.75 first gear,.63 sixth gear:rock:
Unbelievable torque capability:rock:
Excellent shift quality:rock:

I hope this answers some questions, but will probably raise more!!:D

allisons come with GM diesels.... best trannys made... but once you take them apart man they are confusing... i wont even rebuilt one of em

Any more input on this topic??:dontknow:

You would be better off, money and time wise, to just have a lenco built...

or find someone who want to swap a 6sp out of a RC. hmm...maybe not a good idea but would be more appealing to me!!

Not the input I'm looking for!!:D

Why do people think Dodge uses Allison trannys..?

68RFE is the new Chrysler 6 speed auto... I bet it would cost 6 to 8K to get one into a V-truck.

That number just sounds low to me, but I will admit I have never looked at the logistics of such a thing..So to summarize, I am pissing in the wind and blowin smoke out my ass here..lol..

- 68RFE is used in the 2500's and 3500's
- 6 speed Aisin is used in the Chassis Cab 3500's thru 5500's

Some diesel guys are trying to get the 68RFE to the back of a 5.9 CTD, but are having computer issues. I think the same would be true of a Viper engine.

i've got an Allison in 8.1 Silverado. wouldn't want it in a performance vehicle though. its expensive, has too much drivetrain loss (close to 30% i think), and would have to be built to handle much more torque.
