Actual Fuel Cost Spreadsheet

So I threw a spreadsheet together (which I believe is accurate.. dunno took like 20 seconds and i hate proofing stuff) to find out how much fuel was affecting me. here's what it told me

old price of gas = $3.00 (which I believe is low)
new price of gas = 4.60
I put 1,000 miles on my truck that's 100 gallons @ 10mpg.. old price 300.. new price 460... 160 difference or 5.33 a day... or a difference of .16 cents a mile.. ok... $160 a month $40 a week.. ok i'll notice that

So then I said... what if I drive the mini same numbers but 32mpg...as it works out that's $143.75 ... a difference of 316.25 a month... WOW now that's significant.. that's ~4K a year.. and what i noticed is driving the mini now costs about the same as driving the truck used to be ~$300 dollars

the real point of this post was to attach this sill spreadsheet so you can all put in ur own numbers (the fields in yellow are the ones that should be updated)

by the way.... i used a similar spreadsheet in the cost justification of my motorcycle a few years ago.... not that i needed it... but it was still nice to have for when my soon to be ex went :argh: :argh:

Nice spreadsheet....but you pay $4.60 for prem?.. It is $4.05 here for Sunoco and other major brands..$3.9X for generic brands..

Wow...The highest prem got here was $4.11 for a few days then went down to $4.05 for about the last week..

Avg 87 octane $4.29 per gallon here as well...

$3.85 for 87 and our prem is 93 octane.....of course you have to take in account our average income is probably half of what it is in NY...

nevertheless ... the spreadsheet kinda shows that the sky isn't falling unless you're racking up lots of miles... I'm only putting 400 on a month... which is a $64 difference or ~16 a week or 3.20 a day... if i don't buy a rockstar and twinkies... it's like the price never went up... and I live longer too :marchmellow:

I created my own thread because I was doing math on what some others were claiming... and the #'s didn't add up... <shrug>

Nah...people here get up early and work hard...we just make our own additives here..

I did kinda the same thing about 9 months ago to justify riding to work each day in a van pool.....

Without adding in the changes in price and using what i was spending for gas when I first starting riding the van. I've saved about $2500.

It's kinda taken the fun out of the commute, but I don't have to worry about freak highway crap resulting in bents parts. The price of gas, Parking....etc

And when I do drive my truck......It still puts that grin on the ole face

This is one of those threads where I come out of it feeling depressed. Who would have thought we'd arrive at a time when we agree that $3.00 a gallon is low? We have been conditioned to accept the plunger stick straight up the.... *sigh*.. I suppose you gotta pay to play right? Yeah, I'm gonna go cry now.

I'm lucky that I do not have to drive it everyday for work since I work where I live. It's tough paying $120 for a fill up that lasts about 200miles. It does pay to have a small car for everyday driving and only drive to 10 for fun once in a while. The Srt4's are starting to look a whole lot better for an everyday driver.

I am looking for a good DD right now. I wish I could afford the SRT-4's. I am looking at just spending 2k right now. Hard to find a decent car for that price though

Great Work. Excell is such a versatile program isn't it? I use it all the time to make custom invoices and other tabulated sheets

yeah, big fan of excel... the real fun is using VLOOKUP HLOOKUP... validating data fields... creating pivot tables etc. . . it does have it's limits...though... great for crunching numbers... lousy for maintaing data... anytime I get too frustrated with manipulating data via pivots and lookups it goes into access... and then I create joins and write queries...

and yes... i AM pretty much a geek

a few other points
a: I thought $3.00 was a typical baseline a few years back.. maybe 2.89??
b: I wasn't trying to depress anyone... simply point out that depending on how much you drive.. it may not cost as much as you think
c: again, use this as a cost justification for buying a DD ... or a bike.. that's what I did... you can modify the formulas to pad the numbers to make it look better than it is too ... I can hear it now... "see ma, I'm going to buy this R1... the payments+insurance will cost less than the current fuel & I'll have money left over to take you out to a nice dinner every week... can I buy the bike??? I'm really doing it for you :marchmellow:
