Sounds like you would have to walk away from too much to me. You have to decide if you are willing to take the risk or give up so much. This one is on you to decide. Money is not the answer to happiness so don't do it for the money.

things I have learned in the past.

It's not always about the money. It's about having fun, being with the ones you love, and living life.

I have worked for a company that kept me very busy. I was there only programmer and IT guy. That being said, that also made me their service guy. I was basically on call 24/7. Towards the end, the owner would send my wife and I on weekend getaways and would do anything to make me happy. Even threw me a 10k raise toward the end.
I finally had enough and put my notice in. I now work for a company where I work 8-4 M-F, very rairly work late, no service calls, no weekends. I am making a little less, but it totaly worth it.

i had a similar situation come up, i was offered a contract for the ice roads program this past winter. they were talking 40-70K for 3 months of work. it ment packing my crap, giving my dogs away, and going to Alaska for three months. when i sat down and figured it out it worked out to not much, after all the extra expense, losing my two awesome dogs, and moving up there, i would only come home with like 20-30k. i can make a bit less then that staying home in three months. glad i didn't go, they really dont show the escorts on the TV show anyhow. and it is soooo cold.

the other question to ask, will you ever get paid? i have taken on big projects from time to time, and do a TON of research on the company first. i go so far as to know where the owner of the company lives. (thank you DOT#'s) in the end the contractor could fold and not pay right? why risk it?

only advice i have is this (as i'm in a similar situation)...

talk to your fiancee....if she feels it is something that can help you guys in the future, and will stand with you, then it may be worth it...but if there is any hesitation, stay here...

about the designer...i've worked (contracts) for lots of bigger builders, and the grass ain't always greener...we'll pay for this, that, blah, blah, bonus, blah...but sometimes, they do, and sometimes, they don't...how well do you know this designer??? unless you can talk to him/know him personally, or have a friend that can vouch, then it wouldn't matter a bit to me...too easy to get screwed somehow...

plus what about the hours...is it 18 hrs a day, 7 days a week...(are you sure?)...

having the work load you have now, and broadening your customer base here at home might be a better choice for you and your family here...the golf course is bound to be finished at some point;) and building a business doesn't happen overnight, ya know....??

You don't die with money so truly what is it worth? Some say money brings happiness and takes away worries.. I say it can take worries away but it can create worries! Sorry but no ammount of money will keep me away from the ones I love, family and friends alike. Youre only 22 and you seem like you got it together. I say start your own business and build it strong build a solid foundation! Who knows maybe in several years you may make more money from your own business then working for someone else, all while being able to be around the ones you love. No ammount o money from any job has kept me away from my family, working holidays, or taking crap from a boss.
Build your business man, you'll be your own boss and you'll be happy. Happiness is the key to life not money!

a couple of things i would look into. As far as taxes go. I think it's $92,500this year. It's not as easy as saying i'm working overseas so i'm tax free. There is taxable income and non taxable income. I'm on my 5 year as a contractor overseas. I've worked for US and non US companies. Medical insurance? here/there. Travel to and from, who provides. It can be an awesome time overseas, as long as you are not a home body.

Sounds like an open and shut case. i actually was offered the job through a close family friend of 20+yrs who used to work for my dads company and currently works for the builder. i guess he just fininshed a course in new zealand and he just picked up a bunch of re-hab jobs in mass and is buying another island in the bahamas. The family friend says the owner is awsome and caters to all ur needs BUT he is leaving his wife and her 4yr old kid here and will fly home once a month.... i just dont see that working and same goes for my relationship. Im going to go for growing my company and sticking with my company even in tough times. it will be more rewarding and i will have a bit more freedom being my own boss, and FINALLY GETTING MY 10. and god forbid it goes to crap i can fall back on this offer later. Plus i cant drive or buy a 10 in the bahamas when everything is by barge. Thanks a bunch for all the responses!!!! i think iv made up my mind

Advice I have been given over the years:

1. If you can find a job that when you leave at the end of the day, you can't wait to get back in the morning to start again, then you have found the right job for you.

2. We typically work to provide a means for our family to survive. If we can't enjoy their company, and watch them grow, then the job is of little significance.
