to be an old man and still learn something new everyday.

I wired my radar detector into the mirror wiring and found (sure I am the only one that did not know this) that the mirror power goes off when you put the truck in reverse. My detector would "re-boot" every time I backed up. It actually goes off in reverse and starts back up in drive. Why the power to the mirror goes off in reverse is a question for greater minds than mine---unless the anti-glare feature reduces the contrast somehow. :dontknow:

Anyway, it is working and I am happy.

Also, the reason for the $30 wiring instead of "surgery" to the overhead control panel is I have lost so much of my ability to work on our trucks (some call it patients and senility):dontknow: and 260 miles round trip for Scott to fix---just cheaper to bite the bullet and do it this way.

It disables the auto dimming feature for better visibility through the rear view mirror. :D Keep on learning, I know I enjoy every time I learn something new.

Even us old guys learn something everyday. Some of it painfully obvious to others, some only us geezers could relate too.

For grins I am going to disable mine and check the difference. Believe me, my depth perception when backing is horrid. I back up to a trailer and think I am 2' and getting out see I am a good 15'. Something broke in my backing department. Do not seem to have any problem with front and side depth perception but backing is such a problem I try to find a parking space where I can pass on thru and not have to back up. Tried putting the bride on the tailgate but that did not work out so well. I am going deaf (45 years of shooting without ear protection) so couldn't hear her. :dontknow:

The golden years ain't all it cracked up to be---especially when you abused the body for so long---you know, when we were invincible, bullet proof and had all the answers. At our age seems a phrase that keeps popping us is: "man, why didn't I listen." :dontknow:

My ole man had a simple statement describing getting older: golden years my ass! Hurts to move, hurts to think, can't see or hear for shit, etc. Crusty ole fart..

You should look into a Back-Up Camera System for your truck. They are not that expensive anymore and the ones that have a camera with a grid in them are a big help. If yours is an 06 with Nav you can add a Lockpick unit to your REC and add a camera to that.

What happened to your backup camera sir? :)
Congrats on getting that wired in. Looks much cleaner I bet.

Camera works great but at 60 mph in reverse I kinda got to look at the road. :chain:

Problem is when backing up in the parking lot, looking at the camera, looking out both side, the front and listening to the wife----well you get the picture. Old age is not conducive to multitasking. :D

It really isn't that hard to pull the console down but I don't want to pick on the elderly :p

As long as you get it done that is all that counts! Are you using suction cups or did you get a mirror mount of some sort? The suction cups here in FL don't hold for very long and I ended getting a mirror mount that is really tidies everything up nicely!

Yes sir, here in Texas the window mount does the same. Be cruising along and bam, it hits the dash. Got this mount about a year ago but just now getting around to wiring it properly. The little white tube on the far side is a speaker----I can't hear much any more and the last citation was cause the radio was so loud that I did not hear the detector. :dontknow:

If I knew I was going to live this long I would have taken better care of myself!

Is that the standard mirror? Mine has the U Connect buttons.

Not sure what the u Connect buttons is but mine is standard on the '05, the auto dimming mirror. New problem, I resets ever time I shift from park to drive and back again. Might have to see if I can wire it direct in the console.

Getting old is pure luck, growing up is optional.. Gotta get old just to show u kids what u in for, haha...
