Driver's side cools just fine, but no cold air coming out of the passenger side vents. Wondering if this is something easy to diagnose and fix, of should I drop it off at the shop, at risk of getting raped.

Thank you!

Still under warranty??? Sounds kind of wierd !!Probly not too much $$$
if no warranty left.Go to a/c spec.if warranty is done. The dealer will stick it to you.!!!

I don't usually weigh in on technical issues, but, if the truck is blowing cold air somehow, I would guess it could be a blocked vent, a disconected air hose, or even simply, a closed vent.:)

Probably just low on refrigerant. Not sure why, but BMWs sometimes only cool one side or the other when they get low, too.

Thanks for the replies!

Ratmotor, what you say makes sense, it takes a little while even for the driver's side to get cooling.

I noticed on mine last night when I went to the grocery store, it was about 95 degrees out, and yes.. it was sorta cool coming out of vents......but not like it usually is.

But on Friday and Saturday morning it was fridgid cool coming out of it... the only thing I did was change the oil and replace the positive battery post terminal on Saturday morning, drive to post office, and grab a sandwich.

Nothing that I can think of that would affect the A/C system...

But I am going to AutoZone shortly to get a recharge kit...and check the level...

That may be normal operation - the system is only capable of removing so much heat from the air. If you're starting with 95 degree air, and the system can remove (arbitrarily picked number here) 25 degrees - you get 70 out the vents. Starting with cooler air in the morning, minus 25 = cooler output.

you are correct sir.. these trucks will do the same when low on freon..

I just recharged the system, cost me $66.00 including the gauge kit, which was a 2-12oz cans of R134a, and 1 can of R134a with 1oz of oil, 1oz of stop leak, plus conditioners, and a thermometer.

The pressure was at about 30lbs... so I added about 2.5 cans of the stuff.. and the system came back to normal... so I am going to watch it and see if it goes dead again... if so.. then I am going to take it to dealer for warranty...

Now the temp out today is about 95 alos and the air temps out of the vents are are at about 48 to 52 degrees (see pic)

Also, when I took the pic I was in my garage, when no air flowing through the condensor.

When I installed the supercharger I nicked the high pressure line, and replaced it.. and took to dealer to have them leak test, and recharge the system.. and it was fine... no changes have been made since...

Mine is an 06 and has a similar problem. It seems like it only cools when then fan kicks in or at highway speeds. If I am in traffic, it is a nightmare. I hooked up gauges to see whether or not the system was low on freon. It wasn't. Next I watched the pressure gauges and the low side goes to 50 psi and the high side reaches 300psi before the fan kicks in and starts really cooling. Is this normal for these trucks? I was thinking of installing an additional fan in front of the condenser. Will this help? Thanks for any feedback as this is my first post.

Mine did this right from the showroom floor. Took it back twice and each time it tested normal. Even for me it was intermittent but later I could make it blow warm anytime I wanted too.....low vacuum situations would cause the condition. Took it back to the dealer and he was able to replicate. Tech stated he found the refrid a bit low and added. Tech also stated that in WOT combined with high eng temps the ECU will shut off the compressor and this may also be contributing.

While I can still on occasion get it to blow slightly warm it hasn't been an issue. I've learned that this is not uncommon a situation at least here in Phx. Overall, I'd say our AC systems are marginal at best. Granted Phx summer time is tough but its only trying to cool a RC not a QC or tin box SUV. My 81 K5 is twice as good as my 05 and there's a bunch more air to cool in that thing.

I wasnt happy with mine until I put a big fan on the condensor. After that it blows super cold.
Of course I went to the dealer first and everything checked out OK.

Mine does the same thing. Dealer was of no help. I do remember several other members having the same issue.

No problems with mine Yet.
No bulletins as far as I know.I,ll check at work tomorrow, possibly nothing
more than a reflash.Try disconnecting the battery for a minute!!
If I find something,Ill pm you.

Thanks for the info. Any fan suggestions?

Wazzup has a big ass fan...........might want to ask him. I think Boomer may sell them.

I noticed mine blows like a snowblower when parked in the garage............if left out in the sun......the ac takes some time to cool down. These ac's just dont cool quite as good as they should.

I have a huge fan on mine as well... its controlled by a dual speed controller from Flex-A-Lite... at 150 degrees it comes on at 60%, and then at 185 degrees its running at 100%, then after shutdown it runs for 30 seconds to help blow some heat out of the engine bay... also if I start the truck when the engine is hot, it wont start the fan for 6 seconds, this way the fan is not taking power away from the ignition.

My 06 QC is also blowing warm air out of pass side vents. But if i move the temp. selector switch back and forth, warm side and back to cold a few times it starts blowing cold. Must be a problem with the switch.

I found the same thing....at first. Then realized that wasn't the issue. At least with mine. Take your foot off the gas and it will start blowing cold same as if you flipped the lever back n forth.
