Air Intake question

Right idea , but does not fit on the 10's ,sent me one when he first made them to check it out. nice product though:D i think it was the AC lines in the way:(

Holy dang, that's HEAPS!!! So much so, after reading your post, I'm considering removing my current CAI setup and going back to stock.
Are those #'s rear wheel or fly? To be honest, even if it's fly thats enough to be concerned. :eek:

What CAI variations did you try Larry? I know you now run the Roe but before hand? What was the best seat of the pants and also volume? Something we should all keep in mind, although performance might be the same as stock or slightly worse, the sound inside the cab is increased and like most red blooded males, louder engine sound = cool! :D

I think if someone came up with a cool replacement lid or cover for the stock boxes, that it would keep people happy. I'm going to look into it more and keep an eye on this thread but I can perhaps see a custom Bat logo on the OEM air box lid in the near future. Last question, in terms of engine heat, do you guys think the stock air box vs an open air filter set up will run cooler engine temps as it's not sucking in all that hot engine air?

personally i'm going to use m K&N and chop it to hell to rig something up.. i ran a hose and a funnel type thing to catch air so to speak to where i want to put a perminate box and i can already tell a huge diffrence in the way it feels after driving aorund for 30 min or so.. i will keep everyone updated this should get pretty good lol


also i think an open air filter is way better than the stock filter it's all about placement
 
Sounds good. :) Here are some photos I saved from this site ages ago when I was looking at options for CAI. Not sure who made or owns it. Quite a neat design, hopefully it will help someone. When I was looking, the increased sound of an open air box and the looks outweighed going to these lengths for unknown improvements, but, someone here might make something similar then dyno it thus letting everyone know if it actually improves flow, temps and power.

Carl I have the stock air box hooked up to the Roe....I made a custom tube using aftermarket tubing....

I tried the Roe filter and it would cool well as long as the truck was moving.....soon as I stopped the temps would climb rapidly and reach 40+ degrees over ambient in less than a minute...

The K&N setup ran hot all the time...once it heated up it was hard to cool down unless you drove highway speeds non stop for about an hr..

I got IAT readings for other CAIs from members here.....the stock box takes longer to heat up when idling and cools fairly quick........

You wont get that sound you like or the bling so the stock box is best for performance only....

and a disclaimer...I didnt dyno before and after so I dont know if there is an actual gain.....and I didnt really notice a SOP since 10-20HP is hardly noticable among 650 other horses...but facts say that the lower the intake temp the more the engine will put out..

Don't the A/C lines get cold ===maybe the airram can be made to fit around the lines with a large opening and give a little more cooling effect????:dontknow:

one gets really hot and one gets cold when the AC is on, would hurt more than help i think

Thanks for the input Larry. :) 10-20hp? Probably more like 1-4hp :dontknow: which in anyones case (FI or NA) it would just about be impossible to tell by SOP. :eek: I'll probably end up keeping my set up as is until someone proves otherwise with dynos. Thanks again! ;)

running the AC would undue any gain if there is a gain;)
 
Just a thought,but if your saying the tubes are useless for cooling brakes?? What about using the pass side one and run a pipe on it up into the airbox??
