have their own idiosyncrasies. Each one is a little different. Every time it rains hard my “check gaugesâ€￾ light come on. I look at the gauges cause I always do what I am told---sure. The AMP gauge is zeroed out. No, the ole serpentine (belt) is not slipping; in fact it has less than 10K on it. Alternator is fine. I just kill the engine, restart and all is well. Or can drive forever with no problem as I drove it almost 100 miles as I could do nothing in the rain anyway. Restarted the engine and all is well. “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix itâ€￾ Jimmy Ling---LTV fame.

I've been reading about this, too. Do you have a OEM hood? I wonder if guys with the snake hood have the same issue? Maybe design allows water to hit some type of sensor when condition is right.

Everytime I wash my truck it does the same thing.

The "Check engine" light means the ECU has thrown a code. keep a code reader handy and pull that code before you re-start the truck. there is a sensor that is faulty and only faults during the condition. sooner or later it will be a problem

Hey senor, it did not say check engine but check gauges. Hugh difference. thanks tho

Whenever i wash the truck or it rains hard i lose power steering and charging, then it comes back on. Its annoying and weird. Water must get onto the belt.

how do you guys not know this?

water on the belt and pulleys.

it causes just enough slip that you might never hear it, but the alternator and power steering isn't actually spinning - or at least not at the RPM's it should.

steering might be heavy, ammeter is low... it's normal. doesn't take much water at all.

You are so right except for the fact that power steering is working perfectly and the amp gauge is not low but off, zero--nothing. Can drive 100's of miles in this condition. But, could be one little slip and the gauge goes off and does not reset until the ignition is turned of and on again. :dontknow:

Wow. Seems like a horrible problem. Im give my truck away asap to avoid it. Thanks for the heads up.

Silly boy---not a horrible problem just an observation. But, will send my address if it ever rains on the left coast so you can ship you truck to me. I will pay for the shipping for a free truck. Oh I forgot---tis raining in sunny California and because you guys did not build adequate runoff storage you go from drought to flooding and land slides. Go Pelosi. All that is ever wrong with California is the voters. :chain:

It is very common and isn't talked about much due to all that folks that don't drive em in the rain for fear they'll melt. Lmao
Our hood is 60% culprit and the lower pan that holds brake ducts. When you splash through a puddle, the wide tires force water at extreme pressure into front side of engine. (Pulleys)!
I've never seen it stay that way for 100 miles because when it happened I'd slow down till belt caught back onto pulleys. Few seconds. Otherwise it's possible yours is getting into alternator connections itself. She's due a maintenance visit soon :burnout: I'll check into it boss.

Ive driven in the rain (slowly) and havent suffered from belt slippage or check gauges light coming on. I will say for me when driving the rain, the brakes feel like complete crap, like they dont want to stop and I have drums up front. Its this stiff dead brake feel that I hate. Im not sure if that is normal, I plan to have the brake fluid flush and see if that give me better feeling. They feel fine when driving in non raining weather though.

I've driven mine often in the rain when there isn't snow on the ground. Haven't had any issues yet.

Mine did this as well , amp gauge shows 0 randomly, tighten down all my + and - connections including battery post. Haven't had that problem since.

man am i glad to know im not the only one that has the low battety thingy magiggie lol!!!

First time mine did it was when I washed it right after I replaced the power steering pump. About lost my shit, split second later. All was well. Weird that yours stays off. Sounds like some truckery fuckery to me.
