I meant to post this awhile ago, but it isn't a life changing post. Well, I compared the stock analog coolant temp gauge to my digital readout on my ScanGauge II. The stock (Truck) gauge is reading 3-4 degrees hotter than the digital readout. So if that is any indication how all of the trucks are doing, you are actually about 3-4 degrees cooler than your stock gauge is reading. Of course there could be calibration errors, gauge errors, etc. Nevertheless, some little good news for us.

I know there is a few others out there with the gauge. What are you reading compared to your stock gauge? Steve?

(not shown in picture, just the pic of the gauge, the temp shown is inlet air temp)

try calibrating your cluster...to calibrate.... with key off, hold your trip button down, then turn the key on, release when your gauges start to move all around and the lights light up.

Cool tip, thanks.

I've never compared mine, that's interesting. I'll try to find my scan gauge and do that today, if the ice storm doesn't hit and ground me...

Bone,
I found my scan gauge today. We finally unpacked the whole damn garage looking for it (which is a good thing). On the way to the GTG today, I compared it to the analog meter. It was a 35 mile trip each way and the variation ranged from 5-10 degrees between the scan gauge and the stock analog gauge. The scan gauge always being the coolest of the two readings.

Interesting, mine 3-4 degrees cooler and yours 5-10. Some small but good news that our engines may be running slightly cooler than expected.

Interestingly enough, the hotter the truck got, the closer the two were. When I was rolling down the highway, the stock guage was at 180ish (assuming the mark between 160 and 200 is supposed to be 180), the scan gauge was 170. When I stopped in traffic and idled long enough for it to get to around 205 (slightly above 200) on the analog gauge, the scan gauge was at 200 ish. It's kind of hard to tell becasue on the analog gauge you're really guessing, but it was clearly warmer always than the scan gauge.
