I'm seeing lots of speed reprograms for the trucks and I used a race tuner on my Harley during dyno. What's the process for reprogram on the viper and what are some of the better tuners? Or do you even call them tuners? Or do you change the chip. Oh hell, you know what I mean:mad:

There are lots of options...but you need to plan your work and begin with an end in mind...having a good plan will save you lots of missteps.

Most with the QC that want it to continue to be a reliable daily driver have the PCM flashed...contact DC Performance or Stinker or Roe Racing (all vendors here)...there are several options.

Most QC owners look closely at exhaust systems. Your state emission requirements will drive some of these decisions.

Of course if your intentions include forced induction...you have a lot of home work ahead of you...

If you plan on much beyond exhaust, flash, and a small shot of NOS, you will want to think about forging your bottom end (minimum rods and pistons).

Your first step is deciding what you want your truck to be...at the end of your quest.

Once you choose your tuner, he can load your programmer up with a few tunes. Then plug the cable from your programmer (SCT?) into the On Board Diagnostic Port located under the steering wheel area in the front edge of the lower dash panel. Just follow the on-screen instructions. It is a key on/off/wait deal that only takes a couple of minutes. No, there is no chip to change.

You also have some high-end options open to you. My tuner has setups from AEM and Pectel (approx $3500 and $8000, respectively) for bypassing the vehicle's engine management altogether. The Pectel system has a phenomenal traction control algorithm that allows 1000+HP Vipers, Gallardos, etc. to run on the street and strip with virtually no wheel spin.

These are great options if you plan on going big. Otherwise the SCT (as mentioned above) is going to be your best choice.

Cruster, are you going forced induction or doing alot of racing or big mods?

if so th eSCt may be the thing for you, it will let you change things, download tunes, so on. contact [email protected] for the absolute best price, and tell him your a customer of mine.

if not and you just want some bang for the buck, and plan on small mods, headers, catless mids, catback, cai, then just save your money and get it flashed by B@G chrylser, there are a few things you need to know if you go this route, and if interested, shoot me a pm and I will explain what you need to tell them, but you can ovn it to them about $400 they will ovn it back to ya,

SCT is good for wanting different tunes or towing, which by the way Torrie at unleashed is the man for SCT...
If you plan on puttin a tune and never using it again, then PCM flash at BG performance is the way to go!
Both are essentially the same thing, one just allows you flexibility:rock:
Also the SCT will allow you to go dyno your truck and then have a tune customized to your dyno read out

Keep on the lookout for folks selling their flashed computers, if you just want a bump in horsepower and not all the things the Stinker mentioned. they can be had for 100-200 bucks and a vin flash is 125 at BG. Easy 440 whp 470-80 ftlbs.

Thanks Guys

Thanks to all for probably answering the same question 10 billion times:marchmellow:

And special thanks to Stinker for offering an "unknown" his name to get a better deal....Stinker, I'll pm you with some other questions about this and thanks so much for your time!

I'm not looking to do much more than spiff her a bit, probably never see the track, since it's Montana but you never know. At this point not thinking about forced induction, well maybe thinking about it but can't afford it anyway. Plus, BITD a blower was an eventual death sentence for an engine, turbo was a rich man's toy, so we stuck with Weiand channel rams and Tunnel rams and big carbs. So, I'm sure I have a lot of myths to dispel and a lot to learn about more modern induction systems. And, back then, the mechanic was the computer!! I'm sure some of you know what I mean.

Anyway, I love this farging forum and look forward to getting to know as many of you guys and girls better as I can. Thanks again for your time and expertise:congrats: It's greatly appreciated!
