Rachel's library is finally finished!

Here's where I started:

And here's the final product:

P1020540a.jpg

It's 13' 9" x 12' 10".
(6) 10 x 1 poplar shelves per wall.
8" brackets every 32" (every other stud).
The face of each shelf is routed with a Roman Ogee shape.
(1) coat of very light stain on the poplar.
(3) coats of clear on the bottom of each shelf.
(6) coats of clear on the top of each shelf.

No laser levels were used on this project. Bubble only.

More pics of the entire process here:

If you want to see a cool time lapse:

Then click on "View As Slideshow" over on the right side. Set the time delay to 2 seconds. :)

I'm pretty damn happy with the result.
Rachel sure is. :D

Oh, and no- she doesn't have enough books. LOL

Kevin Vila Productions :D

That is the weirdest thing I have ever watched. A shot by shot of a wall getting screwed to death :elefant: :nurse: :nurse:

Looks great, thanks for sharing - Are you gonna show us each book as it goes up too :dontknow: :dontknow: :p :D

To Be Continued .................

Now that is a very nice job for a guitar picker, type guy.
I did that once at our old house and it did not look quite as good as I painted the shelves.
It must have taken you quite a few days to get it all done and do the finishing.

Love your Beany Baby on the shelf! :D:D:D:D (And don't try to tell me it's Rachel's either!);)

Nice job! I wish I had room in my house for something like that!!

Thanks everyone. I appreciate it.

I used the garage as the stain/spray/sanding booth for the shelves. Worked out pretty well. (truck was outside at the end of the driveway...just in case...)

We were going to make the shelves "built-in", but decided against that. This way if the next owners want to remove the shelves, it's only a few screw holes to patch.

Oh, and total cost: Just under $1000.

Steve- you mean a transit level? Heh heh...this project was almost big enough to warrant one. :)

Oh Hairy One....
It's *HER* library.
Not mine.

My library would be painfully boring: huge amounts of pron, technical manuals, and non-fiction.
:D
