I searched a few Home Theater forums but after only a few minutes my head started to hurt. I guess thats why I stick to things that run on gas or diesel.

Any suggestions for a basic receiver and also speakers for a basement setup? I have a Samsung PS58C6500 tv, PS3 used for the bluerays, Apple TV, and a HD cable box.

I dont think I need all the latest bells and whistles, but I know that I dont want a home theater in a box either. Probably a 5.1 system would be lots. I have heard some stuff about upconverting or whatever that is, no idea? I would also prefer smaller speakers that I can hang on the wall or even put into the roof.

Any thoughts?
 
Dang it. I cant remember the guys name that had all the pics of his media room install. Honestly for what you are looking for, Best Buy can help you out. I have a Klipsh satellite system with a 12 inch sub. The speakers wall mount nicely, not bad quality just not top end. For that grade speaker, just about any home theater reciever will work. As with anything, your budget will determine what you end up with.
 
Contact MOPAR Mudder. He built a complete home theater.
 
b&w ...the ONLY speakers to get... and although the quality isn't "quite" as good...wireless satellites are great cuz you can put them anywhere...

mcintosh makes some dope receivers, too...

i'm running a full sony bravia setup now, 5.1 sound, 5 disc dvd carousel and i'm very pleased (and an xbox 360)...and about to upgrade to a 46" 3d led tv, 120mhz, (i love costco) :D

Polk Audio makes some real nice sounding speakers that are crystal clear (thats what I will be getting) for recievers he is running a Onyko (not sure on spelling,LOL) but Visions sells them both,I just got a little 72" Samsung with a killer pic,just need bigger sound now! LOL!

I just built my system and after much research, went with the SLS Q-line gold speaker system.

Here is a video compared to the Klipsch Quintet system

I did go with the Klipsch sub SW450 however since they make great subs.

My receiver is a Pioneer VSX-32 - 7.1-Channel 3D Ready Elite A/V Receiver | Pioneer Electronics USA

It really comes down to budget, room size, and what you are looking for. I have just started playing around with my system and love it. I have the 7.1 system but only have room for the 5.1 speakers in my apt. When I move next year, I will be able to set it up the way I want.
 
Sound is a preference. I have always said this. From the days of me doing car audio, to now doing home theaters. Get suggestions, then go listen to some. Get what sounds good to you. Your going to be the one listening to it. Not us.

There are many brands out there that are fine and affordable. Integra, Onkyo, Harrmon Kardon, Denon. Just read online reviews and talk to friends and see what they have and if they are happy. If possible, go take a listen. Are you going to do HDMI for your source devices? Does your TV support HDMI? If so, many recievers will "upscale" signals. This means you can run your VCR, Cameras, or whatever as a composite signal and it will covert it to HDMI. So one cable run to your TV. Also means less switching if your using multiple remotes. Your TV will stay on the same input all the time.

Once you get into the high end, you definatly want to listen. After all, spending 40k and more on a set of speakers are common. Then preamps and amps could run in the hundreds of thousands. I have installed 30k CD players and 10k Ipod docks. I never have understood why I have clients like this that don't even listen to it until they have signed contracts and it is installed in there homes.

To answer a couple of the questions, I do want to use all HDMI's. Currently I have my components in another room hidden and have a single HDMI run through the false ceiling to the TV. This is why I want to do something because I am tried of moving the HDMI from one component to the next. The tv does support HDMI. I do have a Harmony 900 remote to run the components in the other room including the extra piece to send a signal to the PS3.

I havent really been anywhere to listen to anything other than a couple local stores, but all they want to sell is the theater in a box and Im not interested in that stuff. Maybe I need to find a higher end store?

Through researching recievers it appears the Denon AVR4810CI has very good reviews. Anyone have any input on this unit?
 
If you want the best hands down, serious and if you can afford them it's MARTIN LOGAN.

but some of these speakers, subs are more then these truck bring for sale :D.

Focal systems are very nice.


But have you ever checked out DDAUDIO.com

they are record holders in car audio hands down, they started to get into home audio now.

ever been to disney world, the epcot center uses digital designs the 9900 series in their audio systems.

search youtube for digital designs VS wall socket :D the motors on the subs can take serious abuse. And It's US made
