 I wonder because in the mornings when the temperature is below 60 degrees F (or during the day when the truck sits for hours in the cooler temps, like now) I hear a moaning sound that lasts from 5 to 10 seconds at start up. The pitch of the moan gets increasingly higher until it goes away. That’s it, there no performance problems to report. I am confused because this very same thing went on with my ’97 Dodge Ram 4x4 (exact sound for the exact time with the exact conditions present). The stealership couldn’t decipher the root cause back then. But that was a 318 block with an automatic tranny. That’s nothing like the set up in a V10 RC. What gives? Has anyone experienced this or know what it could be? Is there some sort of drive train similarity between a 318 powered automatic V8 and a 505 powered manual V10 that I am unaware of?:dontknow: I cannot believe it’s merely because there are both from Chrysler (or that they both are silver).

i believe its oil pressure building up when you start it.its the oil filter, it did it on my "iron" v-10 too. i changed filter brands, but....don't ask me which filters, i change my oil so seldom...and i can't remember what happened yesterday, much less 6 months ago!:dontknow: :p do a search its been covered before:D

yeah i believe it was oil pressure and maybe the oil was getting warming up

Ahhhh, oil pressure. Seems like a valid point. I'm using a MobileOne oil filter at the moment. It seems to happen even if I were using a Mopar filter in the cold weather. If oil pressure is the issue then there's nothing much to be done about it. Some people hear it and assume it's the turbos charging up or a supercharger. I'm like "whatever" as long as it looks good to assuming spectators, I'll just be quiet and let them believe what the please. Thanks guys.

Must be nice to call 60 degrees cold! You should hear the sound the truck (and any other vehicle) makes when starting at or below zero!! It moans alot!! I can faintly hear what your refering to (its not dramatic) and support the notion that is oil pressure building up. If you get a chance to hear the truck start when its truely cold, you'll be able to tell better.

Have you checked your harmonic balancer bolt? Just a suggestion if you haven't.

Mine has done this a couple of times.... albeit it it garaged 100% of the time when I am not driving it... but we did have a few really cold nights here in Arizona (around 20 degrees), and my know my garage got downright cold that night as well... so I was getting a slight moaning/whining sound (not the sound of the Supercharger)

I do notice that the SC makes a little more noise in the AM when the truck is cold, etc.. but once the engine warms up that all goes away.

Few posts on this already. Mine does it, or it did it. More noticable in the garage. After I upgraded my exhaust it either stopped and the exhaust is loud enough to not hear it

And it is not the pully bolts, mine are fine and it still made the startup wine.

does it happen more when you turn? the power steering pump is typically whats causes a moan

Really I shouldn't call 60 degrees cold since I am originally from New York. I spent my days shoveling snow in sub zero temps, I know how it goes.. I don't miss it though..

That was looked at during my third oil change. :dontknow: Apparently the stealership said there was some recall about that. So they tended to it..

Nah, just at start up without messing with anything. Like metioned by a couple, it's most noticeable in the garage. Then after work during unusually chilly afternoons I hear it again. As long as the performance isn't lacking I really shouldn't worry. I was just wondering if I werethe only one or what similarities these things would have to a 318 powered RAM 1500 of a earlier year. Oil pressure for the win I guess.:dontknow:
