anyone have a kfx 450R?

Hey rode pretty much every 450 that has been made. I ride in both sand and regular trails. I have a friend who builds and owns a mod shop for quads. Its a nice bike what are your plans for it. The kawi is known to be a little under powered compared to the other 450s. The KTMs are the most powerful 450 but you miss out on the efi and they are known to have more problems than other 450s but still really nice quads with the best shocks. The yamaha and Honda 450s are the easiest to mod with suzuki following those. The Can-ams are also really nice bikes, but not as many options out there for modding them. Each one is a little different when you ride them, personally i prefer the yamaha, but right now am condsidering to go to the can-am. Really whatever you buy they are fun quads just some are easier for modding, some are a little wider than the others which is nice but in woods trails that can hinder you.
 
i plan to trade in the kawi in the spring. i dont race, but my quad is super heavy. it leans like a 1979 olds. the weight combined is about 900lbs. thats why. the 450's are light. i ride HARD, and i need more cornering ability. i was looking at the 700, but it looks so heavy! is the 700 that much faster? thats what i want holeshot and top speed, and cornering. right now i have top speed and hole shot. but my cornering and braking is awful.
i am a heavy guy, 292. so i got to keep that in mind.

i do mostly trail riding, rocky and steep, and wet. i use 4wd about 2% of the time right now but i think i could blast thru those spots. i will be doing Hatfield and McCoy this year so the CVT would be nice!
 
The 700s are nice but still personally I prefer the 450s cause they are lighter and more built for what I wanna do. Which would be ride in the sand. But then you also have to look at what you want in your transmission, all 450s are manual, and few have reverse which i think the Kawi does have reverse. Where as the 700s the raptor and the honda 700xx is also manual with reverse. The only real sport quad with the auto tranny is the kawi 700, which are fun machines to, still weigh more but would be a lot easier for running around on trails. If you took them to the sand, the 450s would stomp say the kawi 700 all the time climbing hills, cornering etc. Really top speed all sport quads are fairly close around the 75 mph mark. You can change your gearing to change that or tire size. Thats where you have to decide mainly holeshot, top speed, or a mix of both. Some bikes are set up with mainly holeshot for climbing hills since you most likely won't hit you top speed. But then its like the truck, how much money do you wanna put in to mod it up. For trail riding I can tell you from riding my 450 its ok, its a pain in the ass climbing over trees with the manual or going slower and the other thing is the 450 is lower so you get hung up easier. If you went the kawi 700 they are a it higher would be easier for trail riding. And really anything you can buy you can buy some things to mod it up to how you like. Best way to check is head out to a dealer, sit on them, see what you like, and is comfortable. Each quad will be a little different and try and drive them if you can. Compare the 700 to the 450. 450s would also corner a bit better but still the 700 would blow away a 4x4.
 
your a big boy soo a 450 might be underpowered..unless you get the KTM. most important is how it feels remember your going to spend hours on this thing so comfort is key. my old suzuki ltz 400 is almost stock and runs 75mph but I only weigh 165. Get GOOD tires ITP holeshots are my fav. get the 6 ply they lasted me 2 years last set. And I ride hard...my 400 weighs under 400lbs. btw
 
really power wise 450s are just as good as the 700s and are a huge step above the 400s, ha i can say any quad you buy you will end up wanting more power out of it ha its like the truck
 
my one friend has a 450, Suzuki i think. i rode it. he weighs 180 soaking wet, we raced, side by side. me on his him on mine he pulled away a bit. his is also a 2006... it felt tight, and cornered nicely, but was kinda slow. about as fast as my brute. his was also carbed. kinda felt like i was going to fall on my face with the riding position thou.
 
thats where the 700s are a little bigger so may be better for you, although some 450s are a little better for biggers guys, the honda comes to mind, but you can also get the taller handle bars which makes a big difference and the nerf bars which help to
 
nahh ive never done an indo gone sideways but... I agree in one sense I have to tuck down really deep to simulate a croch rocket the foot rest are not designed for that but any how keep your weight back and use the controls/clutch/brake/and balance and......wear your helment!! boots help alot in the control department and of course gloves. {Good quality riding gear - $500 not waking up in the hopsital - $pricless$}

what about the honda? i use to love my rancher! for sure want a solid rear axle if i have to rebuild one more shaft or replace one more boot i will scream!
 
Sounds like the 450 Suzuki was probably a 400 instead. The 450 Quadsport should easily smoke your Brute Force.
As for the 700 sport bikes, they will not run with the 450s but they are much better on the trails than the 450s. They also have tons of torque for your weight. I know weight well, I'm at 250. I always leaned towards the Suzuki Z400 line. They are nice, smooth, reliable, and fast and easy to find used at great deals.

you might be right. it might have been 400. at that time i was not set on changing quads so i didn't pay much attn.
 
I don't think I rode it but, I rode with a fella that had one. We had a lot of trouble, his bike got hot all the time and we would have to pull it. Belt got wet in the mud easily too but the power was awesome for a 4x4.
 
700's with have alot more torque good for low end gearing BUT! Myleft I just replaced my stock clucth for a for better one and I can clutch/throttle into a curve if needed too simple upgrades will help overall. clutch intake exhuast jet kit/PCM and you'll be happy no matter what u get. These sport quads are totally different than a 4x4 you will be amazed once u get used to it...give it 1 year and you will in total control of these beasts :) :bornout:
 
There's a nice riding park in Beckley WV too. I personally like it better than Hatfield McCoy. I think the name was Burning Rock. They have a website I think. Let me know if you come to WV riding or wanna plan a trip. I'd like to GTG for a ride.
