Hey all, I'm looking for a little help, so hopefully this is the right place... I'm trying to find procedure/specs, for testing cylinder compression dry & wet for our motors.. If anyone can help out, I'd be greatly appreciative.
Thanks in advance
Jason

i searched all data, all i can find is the time it pays a dealer to do one. they don't have the exact compression you should be at either. all i can find is what you need to torque the plug to which is 20ft. lbs. i think there is an engine specs sticky on the board that might help too

Hey, not sure but I was bored so this is what I found (05 manual) - There are a couple pages you can check out. Obviously, I have never done this myself. I have a mechanic :D

My mechanic just walked in and here's what he had to say: Dry test by cranking over like it says on page 2427. Wet test same as dry test except add 1/2 tsp. or so of oil to each cylinder being tested.

If the pressure comes up and then goes away it is probably the rings. If it stays constant and doesn't rise it is probably a valve.

A standard compression guage with a flexible hose should work fine (or any other one that will fit). It doesn't have to be electronic - analogue is fine, it is just a pressure guage with a hose.

You may want to get the proper tool for removing the spark plug wires if you don't already have it (so you don't have to pull the intake manifold to replace the wire ) It may also be helpful to put some dialectric grease in the plug boot so it will come off easier next time.

The auto shut down relay and power distribution center will require some more research. See #3 page 9427.

Good luck and hopefully this helps some.:dontknow:

NOTE: ATTEMPT AT QUALITY POST #16 :p

Then click on it :D

Did you try it Breeder??:dontknow:

yes i did... Looks much better now.. I can read everything.. Thanks wifey.. Your an engine saver.
Cool!! I did a real quality post - hey everyone, I will be an engineer by next week ;):) - glad it helped.

Best way is with a leakdown testor.
This is done by putting cyl on TDC of compression then apply compressed air thru the spark plug hole (thru the test equip) there you can pinpoint the bypassing air by listening. If it come from the Throttle body=intake valves,Exhast pipe=exh valves. Breather or oil fill port=rings.
A inexpensive testor is avail from Harbor Freight tools.
Testing should be done on a motor that is warmed up

Will be doin a dry compression check, leak down check, and wet compression check sometime this weekend... I've got a air regulator setup for my compression tester that I am gonna use.. I'm not sure about doin it on TDC of compression though, that'll want to force piston down, and I dunno how hard it'll be to keep the engine from turning... I planned on doin it on BDC of the intake stroke (I think valves should be closed by then)... WHATCHA THINK?

I checked with my mechanic (Jerry) and here is what he has to say:

TDC will work, and yes the piston will go down.:D Never had one turn over:dontknow: , piston just goes down and stays put because there is nothing to push it back up

Hope that helps, ;) Hey I gotta watch these quality posts before someone bans me:D
