My mechanic just walked in and here's what he had to say: Dry test by cranking over like it says on page 2427. Wet test same as dry test except add 1/2 tsp. or so of oil to each cylinder being tested.
If the pressure comes up and then goes away it is probably the rings. If it stays constant and doesn't rise it is probably a valve.
A standard compression guage with a flexible hose should work fine (or any other one that will fit). It doesn't have to be electronic - analogue is fine, it is just a pressure guage with a hose.
You may want to get the proper tool for removing the spark plug wires if you don't already have it (so you don't have to pull the intake manifold to replace the wire

) It may also be helpful to put some dialectric grease in the plug boot so it will come off easier next time.
The auto shut down relay and power distribution center will require some more research. See #3 page 9427.
