B&M Shifter Install Tips

I did a search but really didn't find anything that would help me. I just my B&M Shifter in today and I'm going to install it tomorrow. I know some you have issue with noise rattle. Is there any tips you guys could give before installing? Any help would be much appreciated.

i've got some rattle above 4500 rpm, i will trying some new things sunday to try and quiet it. I'll let you know what I come up with

Its a fairly straight forward install.

Lift the center console and middle seat up to ease removing and re-installing the console.

Using a 'T' handle alan wrench speeds removal/installion of the shifter.

Use blue locktite on the shift handle and shifter bolts.

Leaving the console screws in the holes when you re-install it is usually easier than trying to 'drop' them into the holes.

Wrap the lower stick in some type of wrap. I used the stuff you would wrap a tennis racket handle with. Helps deaden the noise. I also put a piece of 3M body tape between the lower and upper handles but still tightened the snot out of the screws. Hold the screws with the allen wrench while installing the lock nuts so they don't loosen. Enjoy.

Oh man.......I wish I had thought of something like that. Don't they have a Rabbi standing at the end of the assembly line blessing all the shifters as they come off? At least that would make them Kosher.

Noise with the B&M will not be a problem, just follow the instructions, will take about 1 hour.

I have had the GEN IV and the B&M and they both rattle like a bucket of nails in a freakin mason jar. You just gotta live with it if you want to shift smooth.

My B&M shifter is roughly 20% louder than the stock setup. I noticed another 10% increase gear whine when i changed to synthetic gear lube but it shifts like a dream now with minimal noise.

You just got lucky. Mine rattles like hell but shifts ALOT better.:dontknow:

Stock did not rattle.

Stock shifter has the big rubber isolator between the upper and lower shift sticks which minimized the rattle. This also contributed to the missed shift problem. With the B&M, the upper stick is bolted directly to the lower stick so some drive train noise is going to be transmitted. It kind of acts like a tuning fork. With a few tricks mentioned, it's really not bad.

Installed it yesterday the bolts that held the Hurst to the T-56 were on tight as F@#! what a PITA even busted my knuckles trying to remove it. I did have some tranny noise so being the anal bastage that I am I went and bought last night and installed it this morning and also adjusted the height I let you guys know how it worked out.
