Bad ECM questions

It did work!! I put the matching ECM I was sent on the truck and returned to stock, then proceeded to install my factory ECM and flash the stage 2 to it. Tuning Successfull!! There are indeed 3 Vin slots and it tells you how many are left. There are 3 tunes stored as well. Thanks guys for your help as I was starting to get frustrated as hell. Now I understand what's happening to these guys buying SCT that haven't been returned to stock and are rendered useless. Good thing I asked for the SCT and ECM together thinking they would work together or I'b stuck with a useless SCT like others.:D

Why did you buy a seperate PCM with you SCT tuner? The purpose of the SCT is to flash the stock PCM with different tunes and then store the original factory tune in the handheld SCT unit. Can you get you money back for the other PCM? It is otherwise useless to you unless your VIN is programmed into the second PCM.

Even though the SCT can hold different VIN's only one can be programmed at a given time. If I remember correctly.

that statement makes no sense @ all.... since the sct you bought hadn't used up it's apparent 3 vin strikes & it had been "returned to stock" when it was sent to you, you didn't need the spare PCM in the first place....
the only reason the sct had to be returned to stock by you was because you tried to tune the spare PCM that was sent with it..... ;)

great that you got it squared away, btw.:)

all true. :)

Thanks for confirming that, was not sure if I was right on the one vehicle programmed at a time part :D
you get apparently 3 strikes @ "returning to stock" & changing to another vin........ after that, the sct will be locked & will require ~150.00 when sent to sct to unlock it again (whether vin or not returned to stock locked)..... then you'll likely have to pay ~$200.00 for 3 tunes from vendors that are doing most of our tuning here like roe or dc performance. :)

guys just have to remember that when selling a used sct - to "return to stock" before trying to sell it...... and hopefully not have used up the 3 vin changes (switching between different trucks) in the process.:)

Well, here's the just! Seller said I would have to get the sct unlocked to my vin or I could buy his PCM and the sct would be fine with his PCM. Made sense to me after all the reading I did on it. Noone could give me a definite answer. That's why I posted the ACTUAL vin slots available on a new unit and how many tunes it would hold. It was Not returned to stock therfore if I hadn't had his ECM I woulda had to have it unlocked as he no longer has the truck.

Sounds like the same problem I had. Seller may have been unaware how the sct works and be slightly misleading.

Is that 423hp stock without PCM also what dyno was it on. Mine made Only slightly higher with sct on dynojet.

So, basically you ended up with a spare PCM. I would sell it if I were you. I am sure someone wants it. Glad you figured it out.

Yep, I got me a rare SRT10 ECM! Oh well at least it all worked.

And my truck was 423 on a Dynojet dyno I think at ART in AUstin at our Texas GTG on a 100 degree day. I saw ones with just a tune , CAI, and exhaust put down 470! Hopefully I'm there now. It's amazng what the extra 800 rpms will get ya after a tune.:congrats:

Damn mine was on a dynojet too 439hp and 494tq with tune CAI, and exhast....maybe his dyno wasn't calibrated correct or I need to find someone else....someone told me to put it on a mustang dyno because they have great readouts??

Usually Mustangs Dynos are said to read a lil low. With that being said all dynos are really for is a accurate tune the #s don't really mean jack. 1/4 mile times tell the story. I know Farenheit's truck was one of the 470ish trucks and he ran almost a second faster and 6 MPH more in the 1/4 on the same day, same track!;)
