Bad News

Towed the truck back to the dealer I purchased it from.. Luckily inside of 30 days, and the salesman is a good guy so it will get taken care of. But this is the situation....

Was driving down the hwy... looked back and saw kind of a haze... wondered if it was blow-by or something... Gauges...check, motor sounded fine, was running fine. I bail off the hwy and park it. Immediately i start to smell oil, i get out and my truck is bleeding to death. Entire bottom of truck covered with oil. Pouring out up front, but too covered to pinpoint....

Truck had new oil cooler lines put on before purchase, im hoping maybe just one of those connections failed...

Like i say, it had oil psi, sounded fine, was driving fine. I think i pulled off just in time though, she was bleeding out.

Nothing says sick to your stomach more than watching a pool of oil work its way out from under the nose of your Viper Truck...

I will keep you guys posted on findings... any guesses??

wow Dont feel to bad three days after i bought mine it was getting rebuilt. I know your feeling luckly your dealer is taking care of you unlike mine did. Good luck

HUH???? I would put more than a brick through their showroom window, well actualy, it would be a 5,000lb brick

Yeah, strange that it was fine... and then pow... oil everywhere! Even if they fix it with new lines... guess braided replacements will be mod #1... screw a repeat of this!

I pray its nothing worse... don't think the oil has any other places to really come from though... other than an oil filter ring or something....

Sounds like a simple oil leak, good thing you stopped in time. All that matters is that there still was oil pressure before it was shut off.

The OEM lines suck... good move to go with JTSVP braided lines.

It usually looks worse than it is when that happens. Quite frightening to see the whole underside of the vehicle covered like that.... but, one drop of oil seems to cover a square mile when it's blown around by the wind.

First time I've heard that one! I always used Mobil 1 oil filters. But, lots of folks like the factory Viper oil filters. You can get them from Avondale Parts (a vendor here). Call them for the correct part number, or maybe someone will chime in with it.

I to, stick with Mobil 1 oil and filters and have no problems! Abit of whine at first for a few seconds ! No leaks! I put on stinker's oil and power steering lines! You should upgrade all the lines, they will leak!

I just have to wonder, what kind of pressure had to be running throught it to tear it open :dontknow:
Maybe signs of a deeper problem?

I only use the Viper filter here.

man, ur right wes, if there was no defect in the filter housing it would take ALOT of pressure to blow it open... like 150+psi. i know they are thin, but they are strong. i have never heard of an oil filter blowing open ever, on any car/truck.

i use napa filters...

though...with all the miles, i tend to only have them in a couple months at a time...
