Dang....Installed Bassani Headers, cat-less mids and Magnaflow exhaust today...seems the gaskets are not correct...maybe even the headers are wrong...:dontknow: :( ...............

The exhaust ports on the head somewhat resemble a oval roof doghouse...top is round and bottom square......headers are round as are the gaskets....top of gasket matches port while bottom leaves a small gap...in other words the gasket opening at the port goes too far at the bottom of the head port opening....result is leaking at the bottom of each header....

Of course nothing can be done till tuesday....:(

Anybody got any Ideas??......

Did some research of past threads and yes oem gaskets are the way to go...happy to find a simple solution but...............WHY IN THE HECK DID DAVE AT ROE NOT MENTION THIS??????...DEFINITELY SEEMS NOT TO BE SOMETHING NEW...UNFORTUNELY I HAD JUST MISSED PAST THREADS ADDRESSING IT..........DANGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG,,,

driver's side was easy....passenger side required removing the K&N and was somewhat harder to get to but not real bad.....worse thing was the plastic cover on the wheel well touched the header...passenger side only....installer recommended cutting a section of the plastic or the header would melt the plastic...

Not a hard install but I am so pissed about the gasket issue....

Yep.. all passenger plastic wells have to be cut open...

Use OEM gaskets, shitcan the gaskets that came with the headers.

Make sure you retorque the header bolts after about 100 miles or so...viper engines...with headers are notorious for leaking.

The gaskets will run you around $40 for the set.

To make the install easy, use small bits of blue painters tape hold the gasket to the header while installing.

Make sure you unplug the battery while doing this... =)

thanks for the detail.....Just glad to hear I didnt receive the wrong headers...just wish I had been informed about the gaskets ahead...heck, no, damn, I had the headers for 2 wks before doing the install....

I used the gaskets that came with my Belangers, no leaks.

Ditto on this, my stockers were scrap when i pulled em off and the dealership was closed for 2 days..... So i tossed on the supplied ones with Belangers, and have had no leaks.. i did retorque twice to make sure,,, it's really easy to do a retorque!

The ones that came with the Bassani's are too large around the port area...the inside port area of the gasket is below the head leaving a small gap...appears these headers are intended for another vehicle..just happen to work on the ram vipers...with factory gaskets..

i think Muzzy did a good write up on the bassani header install. He said it wasnt that bad, i dont recall him saying he needed to cut the inner fender well though:dontknow: he did say you need to remove both inner liners for the install. look for his post. If i new how i would post it on here. anyone want to help me with that:eek:

make sure and unhook battery, youll see when you get to side with starter on there. i didnt have to trim my fender liner either.

Yup, unhook battery...use OEM gaskets....torque bolts to 18-22 ft lbs....drive a dozen times....re-torque to 23 ft lbs.

I also went against advice from experience with my Belangers and had no leaks for the first 5,000+ miles. And yep, I re-tightened the bolts twice after the initial install. I won't say re-torqued because there's no way in hell to get a torque wrench on most of the bolts. After a really hard 100 mile or so drive after having 5,000+ miles on the Belanger gaskets I developed a leak on the driver side. I went back with the OEM gasket and have had no problem. The Belanger gasket on the passenger side is still holding but I feel it's just a mater of time before it leaks too. When I removed the Belanger gasket that leaked it fell out in pieces/didn't really seem to hold up to the heat well at all. I wish I'd listened and gone with the OEM metals to begin with.
