Bassani Header Install Goes Bad...Gonna be a Long Weekend...

can you reuse the factory gaskets from the old manifolds?- icant get mine for 5 days because of the holiday!!!!

man i don't know, i think they are designed to be compressed (crushed) once and with the different pattern of the header ports, i don't think they are re-usable in that sense.

do you have a pic of the gaskets you got with your headers?- the ones that cane with mine are round- nor oblong or "doghouse shape" I hate to ask but iam wondering if the ones i got are the right ones

Mine did not come with any... (even though they packing list said they did), so I called Basanni, and their tech line said reuse the stockers, or buy new OEM ones.. they are better..... they said they give to us just in case your in a tight spot and need some...

Call a buddy over to have him help you remove the stock manifolds, they are heavy SOBs.. plus you will need the help of holding the headers in place while you start the bolts.

Also, be VERY carefull when you pulling the stock manifold bolts out...I hightly reccomend geting to bolt/rust penetrant from dodge or GM (about 4-6 bucks can), and spray the hell out of the bolts, it will make taking them out a breeze.

Spray em several times.. dont be shy... let it sit overnight.. =)

All has worked out. The stock gaskets appeared to be in good shape so we reused them as suggested by the Bassani install guide I found on the their web site. Installer just finished and could find no leaks.

I would rather have new gaskets but I would have to wait until Tuesday. If the dealer did not stock them then I would not have them till Wed at the earlest...decided to take a chance since the stockers looked good.

Truck sounds much, much, much better...very throaty exhaust..still does not have that old time V-8 sound but it does sound mean.

System installed includes the Bassani shorty headers, JMB cat-less mids and Magnaflow catbacks....I definitely recommend this combo..

........just dont use the Bassani gasket if the holes are round....learn something everyday..:listen:

Thanks to this forum I didnt have to wait till Tuesday to find an answer...wish we had this back in the 60s & 70s...Thanks guys!!:shakehands:

.

Mine came with the round ones..they do not work. The bottom of the exhaust hole in the gasket extends beyond the bottom of the head on a couple of cyls on both sides.

glad you got it on and sounds good :) never will sound like a v8 v10s never will :)

installed mine today with only 1 big dissapointment

the headers went on reasonably well beside it missing half the hardware- after using some copper permatext to piece the multible exhaust gaskets back together- they went back on fairly easily- and yes having a buddy there with you to help is the way to go. next bought some B&B mids and high flow cats from a forum member here and they are not even close- so next week i will have to drive 25 miles to a header/exhaust shop to have the mids worked into shape and extended to meet up with the magna flow CB- WILL THIS HURT THE ENGINE IF I RUN IT WITH JUST THE HEADERS AND MIDS WITH NO MUFFLERS??????????????? THERE WILL BE SOME FREEWAY DRIVING INVOLVED- PLUS IT SOUNDS LIKE I TOP FUEL DRAGSTER! WHICH ISNT ALL BAD! ha ha ha:dontknow:  :burnout: :elefant:
