Battery Tray Storage Boxes, get em here while they last...

It will keep most of the elements out but it is not completly water proof. I have never seen water inside of mine but it looks like it could get in there. With a different gasket it might work better. But that would be the hard part. Finding a suitable sealer. Kevan tried numerous materials and his goal was to have it as weather tight as possible.

Hopefully Kevan will chime in on this. He did a lot of research on the seal.

I don't think you'd want it sealed as a battery box - battery vapors can be nasty and I would want them to vent. I understand you have a different goal for the box though...

I guess you could put the battery in there. But that is not what the original design was for. Mainly designed for another storage and use up that extra space.

The box was never designed to be water-PROOF.
Water RESISTANT, yes. But not water-proof. :)
Also, if you're getting water that high in your engine bay, you have a much bigger problem. :D

The box was designed as STORAGE. Not as a battery compartment.
In mine you'll find:
- 12' of 0 AWG jumper cables.
- 1 qt. of Mobil 1 oil.
- (4) 15' motorcycle tie-down straps.
...and there's still plenty of room left.

The foam that I used on the originals took weeks to find. I wanted something durable, decent looking, easy to clean, and with a high heat rating. I don't remember the price per sq.ft., but I do remember that it wasn't cheap.

Regular soft cell foam from any craft store should work just fine. There's also a variety of weather stripping shapes and densities you can score from any home improvement store or hardware store. Cheap and easy to cut/apply.

And for the record:
The design came from my head.
Not from a manual.

I've recently added a basic first-aid kit as well.
