Hey guys

I wanted to ask if anyone has any experience with this lift.

BendPak MD-6XP

Basically its a 6,000lb lift that I can put anywhere. I like the idea because then I don't have to install posts into my garage floor and I can move it around depending on what I want to put in the air. I know a SRT10 is on the higher end of the lift capacity but I still think this thing will be a great idea.

I spoke to an associate for BendPak and they have 0% financing for 12 months. That's pretty enticing.

What size are your ceilings in your garage? I'm not a fan of those lifts because you can't actually get under the car if you needed to take the transmission out, exhaust off, etc.

Don't let not wanting to put posts in your garage floor keep you from doing a 2 post, the ability to work on a 2 post means you can tackle just about anything in your home garage. With this lift you still would only have the ability to do jobs that you can do with a floor jack.
 
This lift obstructs most of the bottom of the vehicle as said above, also you have to drive over it to get "on it" which means that a low setting car won't make it.

You can get a 4 post lift with wheels and you can also park on it and those don't need to be nailed down, like I said with wheels. I have one and it's awesome.

A 2 post lift is also okay because you can still park between the posts.

The biggest issue will probably be how tall is the ceiling. If you've got the room I go for 2 or 4 post lift.

The ceiling is 10 feet in my shop. You got pics of the 4 post on wheels? That thing must take up so much space.

I'm not too worried about getting to the transmission or whatever. I just want to be able to remove wheels, do brakes, engine stuff etc with the vehicle in the air.

The lowest car I will ever own will be a Viper. And I think they have 6" ground clearance.

I'm still not 100% sure I want the bendpaK but I'm really leaning towards one. I wish I could see one with a car on it to get a feel for the thing.

I like the mobility of this one but I would want to do exhaust work and possibly transmission work. Sure would make oil changes easy though!
 
Something I ave been seeing a lot more use of is the wheel lifts. Jay Leno has a set and did a video of them. I have seen them at local bus garages and they work amazing. Look into them, they are on wheels and when not in use can be folded and stored away.

We have four lifts in our shop at home. A 2 post is the only one you should ever invest in, unless they are for storage. Then a mobile four post is the way to go.
 
I have a smaller version of that scissor style in my shop along with a 4 post, its like the LR60 syle. The bendpak stuff is very good quality compared to other makes, especially the other stuff marketed toward the home shop hobbyist market.
It may seem like those style scissor hoists are hard to work with, but its all about vehicle positioning. For standard engine work or removal I put the car on facing forwards, if I have to do transmission or exhaust work, I put the car on backwards so that area is open and not obstructed by the hydraulic ram and pivot points. When I was blowing transmissions out of my track car, I had transmission R&R down to a 45 minute job on the scissor lift.

Or you have an above floor dyno, or a long wheel base heavily loaded truck.
BTW, I was in your town on Friday buying tires, you're probably the guy the tire shop was phoning?

See that's what I am talking about. I can do whatever I need to with the BendPak lift I think. Especially because I can position the thing anywhere in my shop that I want. Center of the shop, offset left, offset right. I like the versatility.

And, you don't even need to park your vehicle on the lift a certain way to clear the scissor part. Just turn the lift around!

But don't forget you have a hydraulic power pack to move to, and hoists are alot heavier than they look. I used a bobcat to move that LR60 style hoist around, its about 900 lbs, I think the one you are looking at is even heavier.
Mine sits in my small door bay, I use it for my Rx-7's and srt8 jeep.

Yeah it weighs like 860lbs or whatever. I'm not worried about the weight. I can roll my truck around without too much trouble- and it weight slightly more ;)

If its got wheels, no big deal.
