A friend is ready to buy a cam for his 10 and im trying to find him the best one. Thanks

What other mods does he have? What are his goals?

He already purchased the LT headers, he is having the heads ported and flowed benched by a local well know shop along with the intake manifold.

Not to thread jack, but I've been thinking of installing a Cam, TB, & tune sometime this summer.
I'd just do the Cam itself, Valve Springs, & Pushrods. No heads, just want the nasty idle & about 510rwhp.
From what I've read, I might go with the Roe Racing 710 cam. It seems to be one of the few off the shelf cams out there.
The only mass produced cams (I've heard of) for gen III viper engines are the Roe 710 & Mopar Comp Cam (which is extremely mild).
Comp Cams have a new series for the Viper, but haven't seen anybody running them.

I'm no expert but if you want max performance, you're gonna need a custom grind, to maximize torque, especially if you have a 2006 or QC.
I have a fairly light 2005 RC, with some weight removed, which is why I most likely will give up some low end TQ for Top end power.

In addition to that, I have a few questions.
What head gasket thickness would put me at 10-10.1 compression?
I've heard the .027 gasket may bump it too high for pump gas...
Also would I need lifters with the Cam, or not?

Crower has three off the shelf grinds for Gen III's. Tony has cams too. They just put one in Midnight's truck and it runs really well.

Of course you can get a custom grind. You can discuss what you want with Comp and they'll grind it for you. Much better if you understand the function of a camshaft and how altering the profiles respond to the engine. I can grind you a lopety lope cam that'll be nasty as hell at the expense of any low end grunt:D Can also make you a Stealth cam that is factory quiet but yank like a MOFO. Really does depend on static compression ratio, and other factors because you can effectively increase the compression ratio by altering the cam profile.;)

The .27 Puts you at 9.8:1 to get to 10:1 you'll prolly need to take another .010 off. I think the .27 is the gen 4 if I'm not mistaken

Yeah he was going to greg ( GTP) does he also do cams?

Is that who your talking about?

If it is Greg Good then yeah he does cams too, not sure what his shop is called. I know he does a lot of viper heads, and he did the heads/cam on a white or silver viper down there that made like 643rwhp N/A

Any clue on how much a custom grind Comp Cam, or other custom grinds would cost?

Lots of different numbers and opinions on this, just trying to find the correct info.
The site below states stock is .053 thick....
Gen-2, 3 & 4 Custom MLS Head Gaskets, Viper Specialty Performance

FROM WHAT TONY TOLD ME THE STOCKERS (FROM THE FACTORY) ARE .051'' AND THE GOLD ONES YOU GET FROM MOPAR NOW ARE .047''...I THINK I REMEMBER HEARING SOMEWHERE THAT THE STOCKERS FROM THE FACTORY GAVE YOU A C/R OF 9.6:1...AND WITH THE .047'' HEAD GASKETS YOU WERE GONNA BE SOMEWHERE AROUND ABOUT 10.1:1

IM SURE SOMEONE WILL CONFIRM OR DENY THAT...

Same Thread Diff. Opinion

The older BLACK o.e.m. head gaskets are no longer available. The newer o.e.m. gold-coloured "Gen IV" head gaskets replace them.
They will give you a 0.4 point bump in compression.

Tony just did my cam and I'm very happy with it.

I just looked at your thread, 50rwhp & 30rwtq with a cam, that's pretty good.
Do you happen to know how thick the head gasket is? I'm guessing it's the OEM Gen 4.
Also what's the compression ratio with that setup?

Sorry about all the questions.... any specs on the Cam.
Do you have any sound clips of the new setup?

I don't know how thick the head gasket is but it's not the oem that I do know. compression is 10.2 to 1. Also changed rods and springs.
