I finally got around to doing another mod! I disassembled the grill on my 06 and removed the "chrome" inserts. I scuffed them up and sprayed them with satin black paint. I think it looks MUCH better than before.

Now I just need to black out my headlights!

not to burst your bubble, that will last about oh....a month maybe...it will take so many rocks..etc..that the black paint will chip off and you will have specks of silver showing thru...looks good at first, but then it goes down hill...i have already done what you did...then went with the honeycomb grill...glad i did....and you will too....call moparconnection, his name is robert....he will hook you up...

Robert is the MAN.

Nice Jimi....

How long did it take start to finish. I was thinking about doing the same thing but maybe even getting a grille off an 06 with the black grille for the base model. I think it has a matte finish though.

Thanks for the compliments everyone! :)

I scuffed it up pretty good and allowed it to dry overnight before even thinking about touching it so I hope it doesn't start to peel off. If it does, guess I'll try something else!

Todd, sent ya an PM and Scott, I sent you an email.

:burnout:

Update . . .

Here's an update for everyone.

wheredwhogo? was right. After several miles of highway driving I have some VERY minut chips.

I'll be honest here, I also did NOT do the best job scuffing these things up. I thought I had, but after cleaning them off before I painted them they were still pretty shiney. I got antsy and decided to paint them anyways. The factory plating is SLICK. I know this and SHOULD have scuffed them up better than I did.

I thought someone had posted in this thread before and mentioned soaking the inserts in something that will eat the plating but not destroy the plastic . . . :dontknow:

Needless to say, I'll be re-doing these. They still look good, but they just aren't perfect. :D

Scuff them up real good and use base-coat/clear-coat (like from Duplicolor). They won't chip. ;)

That looks SAWeeEET!
