Holy crap what a change of events....I join the srt10 forum last Friday night trying to learn about these trucks, the very next morning I run out and buy one!!!

Saturday morning I saw an add on cars.com for what appeared to be a good price and BOLTED out the door....Literally! I drove up to the dealership.

What an impulse buy! I will post pics soon. I got a freaking steal! Red RC (exactly the color I wanted because it always looks good, clean or dirty. Same color as my Dakota.) Every option with side head air bags. Front tires are shot but rears are very new. (probably roasted the rears and moved them to the front.) Other than that just minor blemishes. one ding that didn't hurt the paint that can be taken out. couple scuffs on the door moulding. Couple scuffs on the front fascia but it wasn't from running over a curb or anything, the hood ornament viper thingy is cracked which can be easily replaced, and there's a couple curb rash spots on two of the wheels about 2 inches long. Other than that it's MINT! no tape marks from damage. the paint is in incredible condition. Clean carfax one owner truck. little to no swirls. Clutch feels great, brakes feel great. ENGINE is freaking awesome!

Here's the rundown. They had it priced at the dealership for $26,995. Already a good price. Well, I saw it online for $25,995. They had it on the lot for 155 days and the salesman was very candid that they wanted to get rid of it. Afterall, it was at a freakin' Honda dealership. (Every head on the lot was staring at this truck when I had it parked in the middle of the lot after the test drive and during negotiation.

I talked them down to $24,500!!! I was still haggling them to come to $24k but the sales manager came and said this is it, absolutely no more. Otherwise we can just wholesale it for that price. Then the salesman whipped out his blackbook. He showed me that the wholesale price was $24,500 exactly, in AVG. condition. It's definitely BETTER than average. He even pulled up his computer screeen to show what they gave the guy who traded it in as an allowance of $28,500 for a new Honda!!!! He was very candid. No wonder the salesmanager was pissed. That truck actually LOST them ~$4000!

They even gave me another 6 years up to 75k mile warranty bumper to bumper with $50 deductible for $1,500!!! I thought that was pretty damn good for a used truck. A 6/50k on my 300C SRT8 when I bought it was about $1200!!! I just found out I think the standard powertrain warranty is 84 months....oh well. Maybe I didn't need the warranty but at least I got peace of mind.

It was so funny, the salesmanager wouldn't even look at me after I shook on the deal with the salesman when I was walking around during the waiting process. He had a puss on his face BAD. He truly was pissed. The salesman didn't seem to care. Nice older Indian fellow who told me he was only gonna make $50 on the deal but he just wanted the numbers because he only needed 1 more car to get monthly bonus. I DIDN'T EVEN REALIZE I was in there on the last day of the month until today becase I was so excited!!! I'm sure that's the ONLY thing that got me the deal that good.

I can't believe I bought a daily driver Viper powered truck with a 6 year warranty for what those people on the lot were paying for Accords! How freakin' cool is that?!

I'm so stoked!

The gas mileage? OY VEY! THat's gonna put a dent in my wallet by another $100 a month, but who cares?! I'll have more fun then with my Dakota. Of which BTW I was debating trading in. Once they gave me such a good deal on the price I wasn't even going to bring up the Dakota. You KNOW they would've gouged me on that to make up for their loss. I'll just sell it outright.

I will be putting pictures up soon. It's great to be an SRT X 2 owner....SRT10 Ram and SRT8 300C.

Matt, welcome to the site, you sound like the kind of person that will fit right in here. Your enthusiasm is wonderful, and will only grow.

But the statement above is like saying that an all-state quarter back can start on an NFL team. They are the experts, you got a good deal, but they did not loose a dime.

Have a ball here, you will find great advice and wonderful friends.

Hey Matt,

It was good to meet you at the Spring Festival of LX's. You're gonna love the truck!

Welcome to the RBC. I love your story and can appreciate the enthusiasm you have. I still have the same enthusiasm today after a year of owning mine. I agree with Prof that the dealership didn't loose a dime but you did get an awesome deal. Once you go Viper you cant go back. The guy that traded in his SRT 10 for a Honda must quickly get into the short yellow school bus so he can take his meds immediately.

Brad

Hey welcome to the club.

I prety much do the same thing.. impulse buying.Like a kid in a candy store. I was a former Hemi truck owner. Used to check out this site alll the time. Then one Sat morning found this truck on Ebay from a DS in North Carolina. So I just clicke on it and won the bid! And that was that.
This is a great forum with alot of knowledgable people here. BTW i'll give you 25,000 for it!

A lot of us could make the same confession...this truck is not rational, it is totally emotional...and wonderful.

Guys, honestly trust me. I worked at a dealership as assitant to the Used car manager. I handled auction preps and wholesale preps. I've had many salesmen who are friends of mine. I understand how the wholesale structure works.

They broke even on whole sale price. AFTER the deal was done the salesman showed me the proof sheet of what the allowance for trade in was. It was $28,500!

Think about it....It's the market right now....This truck KBB's for $41k. Their resources for valuing the vehicle on trade were WAY unreliable. They totally underestimated the market for these trucks when they took it in. It was on the lot for 6 months. It's as simple as that.

Now, did they actually LOSE money? Well, on me they did, on someone else they'll make up for it for sure. Who knows, maybe the guy who traded it in paid $4k too much on a Honda with his trade-in, who knows.

Bingo! Or the dealer took a skinny deal (over allowed and decent price on new vehicle)

Everyone thinks they can beat the pro's some can some can't.
